    Translation:

    Cat: I like your music.
Beans: I saw you play againts the Philadelphia 76er's. You handed them their worst loss of the season.
Cat: Yes we did. I scored 25 points. It is nice to be able to come back home and do well.
Beans: You are right about that!
Cat: Even if we win only one game all year, I hope it is in Philadelphia. How is your new record that is named Reasons?
Beans: If you listen to my music, you will play especially well.
Cat: I listen to all of your music. I even have your "Best of" compilation. You know, the old one.
Beans: My new album is very good. It would inspire you to really play well.
    Cat: Yes.
Beans: It will take you back to the old days.
    Cat: Yes
    Beans: Yes.
Cat: The fellow they call Scarface and I listen to your music all of the time.
Beans: he is a friend of mine. He will be coming here and also be on my next album.
Cat: Yes, he will be coming to the game tonight. I got him some good seats. He is my friend.
Beans: Who do you play tonight?
    Cat: The Seattle Supersonics.
Beans: How many points will you score?
Cat: I am going to work hard against those African-Americans. I do not think they take us seriously. Steve and I will be ready to play and I am anticipating being featured on ESPN.
Beans: I want to see the Dynasty sign.
Cat: Yes we will be doing that. You haven't seen it yet?
    Beans: No.
Cat: We've been doing it so much, the reporter from the newspaper asked us about it.
Beans: I would like to watch you play. Will you be coming to the East Caost any more this season?
Cat: We are finished with the Eastern Conference. I made the game winning basket against the Knickerbockers and I had 25 points against the team from Philadelphia. We beat them badly. You know that Allen Iverson and Aaron Mckie would have loved to beat us badly and make me look bad.
Beans: When you played collegiate basketball at the University of Rhode Island, I saw you play the team from Temple. You scored 25 points.
Cat: Actually, I scored 30 (but who's counting). When you come back to play in your home town, you must do well. Aaron McKie from Temple, Arthur Davis from St. Josephs and Alvin Williams and Jason Lawson from Villanova get to play at home all of the time. They get to play with pride quite often. I only get the satisfaction of playing at home once in a while so I have to do well those times. I do not want to be hearing some good natured kidding about not doing well or getting beat at home.

why? those were the words that were really said.this is a hip-hop publication here, not TIME. maybe you can't believe that a rapper and a professional ball player from the same neighborhood are speaking slang. THese guys are in their element, they are riffing off each other. I CANT BELIEVE that people get annoyed at something this trivial.
Just because they are role models does not stop them from speaking comfortably with their friends and associates.

If YOU had an interview with Cuttino Mobley, wouldn't you want a comfortable didalogue?

Oh my god, I laughed so hard at the entire translation. Absolutely brilliant!

I guess it really is a simple conversation when it all comes down to it. [IMG]

Thanks a lot, bobrek. Great stuff! [IMG]

I understand it's just a conversation. If they were talking wherever I wouldn't mind one bit. But in printed word it's painful to look at. Oh geez the conjugation!

Yo no pienso

    Now French, bobrek. [IMG]

Seriously, that was the worst interview I've ever read. And it isn't because of the hip-hop either. They didn't really talk about anything concrete. It seems to be mostly a testosterone-exuding fashion show. Should I now go buy a Mobley jersey because he can talk jive, use derogatory terms I'd never get away with using, and brag about himself?

Let me tell you DonKnutts, I grew up in the culture. I mean what I just said, I don't know what they said. It was just a rambling interview, didn't get to a point. It was just like a couple of guys just chilling on the corner shooting the breeze. Would you want to listen in on what they said on a message board? LOL bobrek! [IMG]

that's cool, I wasn't trying to make any assu mptions really, just a bit surprised that some posters got upset at what is just a light-hearted "interview"/conversation between two guys using a lot of slang.

i thought people might be interested in hearing how Cat gets amped to play in Philly and how his over-the-top self-confidence is kind of humorous and fits in with both Beanie and the hip-hop generation.

that is all. the translation reminds me a little of the one someone created as a non-ebonics version of Biggie's "One More Chance" song.

No problem DonKnutts, I know where you're coming from. The talk was cool in the interview, it just didn't seem like something to put in an article because it wouldn't mix with anybody who wasn't in with them. bobrek's translation was funny though. Harmless fun, hilarious! [IMG]
