I know that if I looked hard enough, I could find a thread to explain all this, but I'm too lazy to do that.

I was wondering if you, or anyone else, could explain to me how this "sim-league" works, so that next time I can join. How does the rookie draft work? How does the whole bloody thing work? When will you be starting another league?

    Thanks muchly.

    ZRB,

We started about 3 months ago, and we took the rosters of all the NBA teams and each of us was one team's GM. We have all the freedom that real GM's and coaches do... you can trade picks, players, change lineups, whatever you want. We simulate these games on NBA Live 2001 every 1-2 nights, and I give standings, stats, and other information when I do so.

The top 8 teams from each conference make the playoffs, and then we do the playoffs just like the NBA-- 5 games in the first, 7 in the rest. We finish an entire season in about 2 months, and then we start another one. So right now, in sim time, it is May of 2002 as we are in the playoffs of the second season.

There will only be a rookie draft once every calendar year-- the same as in real life. Same time too. The draft we have for every season is called the common draft. The intent is to make the good teams less dominant and the bad teams strong. It is a 2 round draft in worst to first order in each round.

We will most likely be going to a new format for that draft after this season, called the 4-1-1. Each team is allowed to protect it's best 4 players first. (protect them from being submitted to the draft so you don't lose them) I will then take each team's 5th best player and submit them to the draft. After that, you will protect your next best player from the draft, so at this point you will have protected your 1-4 guys from the draft and your 6th best guy. YOu will have given your 5th.

I then will take your 7th and 8th best players, and give you the choice of which one to keep and which one to let go to the draft. So, each year, everyone loses their 5th best player and their 7th/8th best player to the draft. Since these players for good teams will probably be better than those on the bad teams, the bad teams who pick first will get better, and gradually have a better chance at competing. The best chance for them, however, is to make good trades.

If you join, I think you'll find it a league worth your time... it's fun, and while the rules may seem strange, they are very easy to comprehend when you get going. It's not hard. Keep watching the forum, and I'll get back to you when I have a team available, which will probably be very soon...

Just one more question: Where would I find the rosters for every team?

Hello ZRB, i dont really know you, but your reputation precedes you on this BBS. You can find the rosters and much more on the official league website. Find one of Heath's posts and click on the link in his signature.

The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?

You can click the link in my signature. However some of the teams are not updated. Especially the Central division. I passed along the update duties to the individual GM's but no one has sent me any updates. I host most of the website and Heath updates the main pages. Be patient because I think there will be a team up for grabs soon.
