Ok, so I've got a date and I need some suggestions. I'm thinking casual dinner thing - nothing super fancy. This is a first date and the girl is young and off beat. It will have to be something other than Mexican or seafood because I can rarely find something to eat there that doesn't have meat or meat by-products in it. Maybe someplace kinda cool and/or funky but not super noisy. Suggestions?
Congrats on the date. Hope it goes well! Taco Bell and Taco Cabana are out of the question. Umm, Ninfa's is also out. Check this out Jeff and see if this helps... http://www.digitalcity.com/houston/bestmexican/?page=main&tab=restaurants
jeff...first i must say. pics! i feel that we at the BBS need to screen these women for you. being in a band, you'll get plenty of ladies - and now that they are available to you - we need to make sure you get only the finest.
What is that? By the way, it doesn't need to be a vegetarian restaurant. I can find something to eat most places. Just Mexican and seafood are really difficult. And no pics. Sorry.
Fadi's is a Mediterranean/middle eastern place. It's kind of Luby's style, in that you get a tray and then pick what you want to eat. It's a great place for veg and meat eaters. Make sure you get some humus, I can't get enough of dipping pita bread into humus. http://www.b4-u-eat.com/houston/restaurants/reviews/rsv1357.asp Though, I guess it might not meet your "not too loud" criteria. It's pretty big, but there are some sections that are away from the main dining area.
I know you hate to get out of the city, but take her to Udupi (http://www.b4-u-eat.com/houston/restaurants/reviews/rsv1857.asp) in Sugarland. I haven't been to this one, but their other restaurant in Pearland (and the one that used to be on Richmond near Montrose) is awesome. And it's veg. Then take her hear to walk it off: http://webtechstore.hypermart.net/hou_org/auto/baps_new_temple.html
are there any good Shwarma joints in houston? I want a shwarma, or Humus and bread, or Labneh Cheese bread soooooo badly.
Not a bad suggestion. I considered Cheescake Factory too, though it can be pretty damn crazy depending on the time. I've thought of places like Nit Noi or an Italian place like Josephine's downtown or that place on Dallas near Waugh (never can remember the name).
Phoenicia Deli has the best shwarma I've ever had. Anytime I've tried it somewhere else it just doesn't compare. Jeff, I always like taking first dates to the River Cafe on Montrose. It's nice, but not too nice.
Um, Mexican. Check my original post as to why I don't want a Mexican place. River Cafe is a very good suggestion. Thanks.
Don't do Cheesecake. Fadi's is good. Nit Noi is/was good as well. All of the restaurants in the Rice Village seem like they'd work.
