the worst part is, you're saying its understandable. then to top it off you're blaming it on california?
It's obviously wrong, but it's only getting press because he's Jewish. I guarantee the majority population of the league (black) have much more prejudice thrown their way, but it's acceptable to call them all "thugs", so no one bats an eyelash.
While I agree that, more and more, people are using the word 'thug' as a sort of code word for the n word, calling people thugs is hardly comparable to painting a swastika on a mural of a Jewish player. No, this is much more comparable to painting a noose on an image of a black player or perhaps a burning cross. This goes well beyond a racial slur.
Not sure what it has to do with California. If someone in Texas or Chicago or New York or anywhere got as much attention as this guy did for painting a stupid swastika, of course he (or someone else jealous of the attention) would do it again. Publishing statements condemning it as a despicable act of racial hatred isn't helping anything. They should have painted over it so no one ever saw it and then kept their mouths shut. Also pretty pathetic that the guy could it a second time and they have no more to go on than they did the first time around. Install a video camera, people. Even a fake one would probably do the trick.
There are intolerant people out there that hate others because they are different. Inside, they are afraid of them. This kind of intolerance is, unfortunately, pervasive. If you think it doesn't exist in Texas, you are blind. Trying to cover it up so it doesn't get reported is hardly a solution to the problem. It is far better to think about it and how it impacts many of the imortant issues of our time (the anti-immigration rhetoric; the no mosque at ground zero issue; the gay marriage issue; etc). The list goes on and on. If you hate someone because of their race, religion, nationality, or sexual preference, look inside yourself and figure out why.
