what do you guys think of casinos and gambling? i know a few people who are totally against it. me - love it. we got 3 GREAT casinos in detroit that opened up a few years ago. these arent little dinky ones. these are pretty nice and they are expanding soon. i know there are casinos all over the place, not just vegas and atlantic city. lots on indian reserves and things like that. anyone go? what do you guys like to play? are you guys good (be honest)? personally, i go maybe a couple times a month and play primarily blackjack. i got tired of that like a year ago and then tried new things - like craps, 3 card poker, and roulette. did ok at roulette but its just waaaay too random for me to get into. 3 card poker killed me as i found out its a 'sucker game' (wont go near that anymore). craps is cool but i still have a lot of learning to do. so im back to blackjack exclusively. and ill be honest, ive won more than ive lost overall. i think i have good money managing skills. i take what ill lose and rarely play more than that. couple times i did...oops! the thing i like alot about blackjack is if you have a good table, where everyone plays CORRECTLY, and everyone roots for everyone else...including the dealer. love a cool dealer. hate the ******* ones. its the worst when you find this guy who wont hit 15s or splits 20s or some ****. god thats frustrating. it can seriously ruin the entire table and cost me money. ill usually hit the 10 dollar tables and move up if i start winning. once and awhile ill just go for it all and play 25 dollar tables. but usually start with 10s and if its good, within 20 minutes im probably playing 25 dollars a hand or more. also, for those who go, have you seen this new game : double exposure blackjack. its where you get to see BOTH the dealers cards before you even play. sounds like easy money right? its not. in fact, the odds are so bad, the casino governing people (whatever they are called) made them fix the rules a little and give bonus payoffs cuz the average payoff to the player was sooo low! the reason the rules arent like straight blackjack...basically you lose all ties (cept blackjacks which pay 1 to 1) and you cant double down whenever you want. so if the dealer has 20, you HAVE to hit til you get 21 or you lose. very frustrating. anyways, anyone else like casinos...goto vegas often? (i love vegas!)...got any tips?
oh comeon. you knew that. ive been to colorado once. lived in michigan forever. now lets get back to the topic at hand...
Vegas is great. Great weather. Great golf. Great hotel rates. I'm pretty good about not spending my life savings. I always stay at the Rio Suites Hotel. I'm registered in their casino card club and they send me offers for FREE and very low rate rooms. It's incredible considering I'm such a low roller. I probably won't make it out there this year. I'm going to Disney World in June for a week. os
When I am overseas I gamble some...mainly blackjack and roulette. When I want to just have fun, I play blackjack...if I want to try? or at least have any hopes of making money, I will play roulette...it is random, but I usually spread myself out across the board--not everywhere but usually square on 2 numbers then half the surrounding #s of my original 2 numbers. Never been to Vegas. I don't think I could gamble very well with US currency--when you are gambling with foreign money it doesn't seem as bad if you lose.
if you want hopes of making money, roulette isnt your game. i mean, the rules of the game itself will tell anyone with any minor math knowledge you cant win. all games are like that obviously, but most arent so clearly told to the player. (e.g. i think picking the exact # pays 32 to 1. there are 36 #s plus the 0s) im pretty sure blackjack has the highest average payout to the player, if played correctly.
If played correctly, the player has the advantage, but will get kicked out of the casino for card counting if he's lucky. I'm for gambling with friends so the odds are even and skill wins. Fantasy football, poker, bowl games, chess, etc.
i have no idea how to count cards, and i still win more than i lose. i have a friend who knows how and when i went to vegas with him, he would hit the really lower casinos...like the ones outside the strip and clean them up cuz they didnt give a ****. its amazing how many different rules there are in blackjack and how changing minor things can swing the advantage alot. fortunately, at the 3 casinos here, the rules are all standard.
I love Vegas, but I'm a crappy gambler. I just need some education, but stupidly, I've never taken the time to learn. Fortunately, I hate to lose, so I just end up doing other things. I can spend a day just people watching. I was there just a few weeks ago for a bachelor party. The things I saw..... My wife is so cool. She gave me one of her Southwest free tickets and some extra spending money.
