I am a little surprised with the Reddick Bandwagon- I just wonder what would have happened if Duke made it to the final Four.

Nothing against him personally- but I think it would be a terrible mistake to pick him with our No. 8 Pick - that is way too high for a role player who is undersized for the NBA position.

Let us not forget that he will not get the "duke" kind of minutes nor will he be the first two offensive options. He will be steam rolled defensively in the NBA.

If it is perimeter shooting we are lookign for why No Douby or Novak. Heck Mike Gansey would just be OK. Agreed none of these are starting calibre player- but no way can anyone say with a straight face that you will spend the #8 on a college kid who perhaps being a great role model- is not what this team needs.

Sure a 14-16 th pick it would make sense- but not close to the Top 10.
Compare Steve Novak's 3 Pt Shooting percentage- and if you watched him in the 3 Pt shooting competition you would know- that Novak Kid is worth considering with out Second Round pick ( I am afraid he will move up as more people get to know the facts)

THe ONLY reason would be that he was a star at DUKE- it just does not fit our needs .

I like Novak a lot too, but he wasn't taking the contested shots that Redick took on a consistent basis. Same story with Gansey. You can't really compare those guys.

With all of that said, I wouldn't take Redick at #8 either. Ideally, we would trade down and pick him.

He is a 6'4" guard who can shoot like crazy, Ray Allen crazy !

He would stretch the other teams defense and give Yao room to operate.

He is probably the best fit and most ready to contribute player in the draft outside of perhaps Morrison.

You don't average nearly 30ppg on the number 1 team in the country in college and not be a stud.

Some of the same arguments about Redick were made about Nash and Hinrich.

Reddick would fit in great in Houston.

Thats the point. He's the size of nash and hinrich, but he doesn't play the 1 guard. Will likely get torched on the defensive side night in night out.

The treatment JJ Reddick is getting on the BBS reminds me of the criticism leveled at Tayshaun Prince before and after he was drafted. I'm not suggesting that Reddick will be as successful as Prince turned out to be. But, it is funny that these two would evoke such strong negative emotions in posters.

It also reminds me of the prejudice many people seem to hold against Duke, and the truism that Duke players are good in college but make solid but not great NBA players. So, I looked at their recent draft history. It's not too bad.

This is the NEW NBA. Defense doesn't matter. See the WCFs, watch Boris freaking Diaw post up like Shaq, see Steve Nash's MVP "turnstile" defense.

    Exactly Juan !

And JJ was a better college player then almost all of them, and certainly a better scorer/shooter.

6'4" is not too short for a 2 guard...Dwayne Wade is that height.

I think Novak will get steamrolled defensively also.

i'm neither for nor against reddick, but dwayne wade has a lot more athleticism to get by on and hinrich can handle the ball. reddick can shoot but he's not ray allen. ray allen is bigger and more athletic.

edit: wade can also handle and hinrich's quicker than redick. count me as one of he people that sold him short coming out of Kansas, especially his pg skills.

This has nothing to do with "hate Duke" phenomenon. How come I am openly rooting for Shelden Williams?

How can you compare reddick to Elton Brand? Really let us have a mature conversation here- atleast let us compare apples to peaches!

DD- I am not questioning his ability to shoot or his record in College.
Your confidence level when you are "the weapon" for the team Versus "a weapon" is a lot different.

Novak with a second round pick is a far better choice than Reddick at anything upto No 10.

If we are trading down- I hope we pick Shelden over Reddick- I will not even think about why?

I just dont get it- what is this crap about the NEW NBA?

Defense matters- despite what is being touted- but the question is will you place everything on defense or will you pick your battles?

JJ Redick as a scorer off the bench would be great, he might not develop into a Jeff Malone/Jeff Hornacek starter type player, but if you get John Paxson or Jon Barry for 15 minutes a night wouldn't that be ok? I think that's the worst he'll be in the NBA, on the other hand Rodney Carney might be a big bust, or take a long time to develop like a Gerald Wallace. I like Sheldon Williams or JJ Redick at that #8 pick, assuming guys like Morrison, Williams, Gay, and Roy are taken.

The more I hear abour Novak and Dee Brown, the more I like them. If only we had another second round pick so we can take them both.

as for #8...who the hell knows? outside of a no brainer situation (one of bargnani, aldridge, gay, morrison, thomas, or roy falling to us) I'm not convinced that anyone is worth the #8 pick. carney has a lot of upside but may be a total bust. foye could be dwane wade or luther head. redick, sheldon, rondo, m.williams are all risks this high.

at least with shelden and jj you know what your getting.
