I personally think that Carter is better. Even though Iverson averages more points, Carter has a better field goal percentage. I think Carter could be the best player in the NBA. I mean 27.6 points, 5 and a half boards, 4 assists, 46 % from the field, 40.8% from downtown, 1.1 blocks , and 1 and a half steal per game; you can't get much better then that. ------------------ Houston Chronicle: He sat with his teammate and buddy Cuttino Mobley in Philly and they talked about how they had whipped the Sixers and Pacers by about 30 each this season. "Smacked the ... out of them," he said. "We have the talent."
Ask again in about 4 games. ------------------ "You don't do that! You must always give the Dream back his change!" The Rockets will be NBA champions. Believe.
Kobe Bryant is better : 28.5 pts, 5.9 boards, 0.6 blocks, 5 assists, 46.4% FG, and plays defense. Tracy McGrady is better : 26.8 pts, 7.5 boards, 1.5 blocks, 4.6 assists, 45.7% FG, and plays defense. Throw the stats out; I'd take either of those guys on my team before Vince simply because either of them plays hard-nosed D and isn't afraid to get up in your face when playing it. He's also been MIA until recently in the playoffs, so I wouldn't call him the best player in the league until he can come to play every game. ------------------ NBA Draft Lottery is May 20th. I've felt this all season and for that matter I'll say it again: Vince Carter, despite the accolades he receives, is still one of the underrated players in the NBA, when you compare him to his peers. Vince's defense is pretty good if you ask me-- not great but not poor either. Imho, I think he's a better defender than Kobe or Iverson, especially when you consider how good these guys can look with a defensive stopper like Shaq/Mutumbo behind them to stop anyone who penetrates by them. Offensively, he is probably as good or better than any. He has the isolation moves and the quickness to shake most defenders. He has the post moves and fadeaways. He has that little special thing called "it" that you need to be a clutch player, and he plays within the team concepts and is a good passer on the move. But, what distinguishes him in my eyes from the others is shooting the ball. On top of all of that athletism and isolation game, he is still one of the top 10-15 3 point shooters in the league. Sure, the other guys can shoot 3's, but they are not nearly as lethal as Carter. I mean, with Kobe and Iverson, you at least feel better about them pulling up for 3 than you would them blowing past you. You don't necessarily feel that way with Carter-- he's that good from the outside, and it's that trait that in my eyes really distinguishes him from the other swingmen. All of those 4 guys (Vince, Iverson, Kobe, McGrady) have legit arguments to be the best at that spot, but if you ask me from what I've seen, I'll take Vinsanity. ------------------ President of the Mo Taylor, Jason Collier, and draft Richard Jefferson fan club! Whoa, DoD! McGrady turned into a boarding monster! He better look out, or Dennis Rodman will start stalking him soon. ------------------ Give me ambiguity or give me something else. [This message has been edited by RunninRaven (edited May 12, 2001).]
Until recently, Carter hasn't really put much effor into defense. At least Iverson has always worked equally hard on both ends. I would take Carter over Kobe though, because he's less of a ballhog and less of a headcase. ------------------
I'm not sold on Vince Carter because just now started stepping up, and he isn't a good defender. I would take Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, Michael Finley, and Tracy McGrady over Vince Carter. All are better defenders, and all are fearless. They didn't need a teammate calling them out to step up and take over in clutch situations. And all of those players are just as good as Carter from the perimeter. I definitely don't think that Carter is the best of that bunch. ------------------ See the three, be the three. The Sixers are winning this is seven, Cat! I think its a draw between Iverson and Carter. Iverson works so hard and plays through horrific injuries, and is less than 6 feet tall. That's pretty amazing. Carter is spectacular, and just as explosive as Iverson, although I don't think he has as much heart. Draw. ------------------ The Protrolls.com message boards! Protrolls.com! I say Carter is better than Iverson. But the best two in the league is T-Mac. Kobe is a close second, and probably can make a case for first. Cat, Vince is an alright defensive player(Probably slightly above average), but Kobe is better. There's a reason he got All "D" team last season, and Vince was barely mentioned. So... 1. McGrady 2. Bryant 3. Carter 4. Iverson 5. Finley("2" or "3"?) BTW, where does Cuttino stand in most of your rankings? I'd probably place him at 7 or 8. 19,4 is a very good statline for a third-year player. ------------------ Never Underestimate the Heart of a Champion

Overall I'd have to go with Allen. ------------------ Ceo of the Walt Williams and Lisa Malosky fan club. atheistalliance.org
Carter is definitely as good a defender or better than Ray Allen, and arguably better than Kobe. Carter stepped up on his own behalf, when his team needed him most, in just his second playoff series. Iverson couldn't bring the Sixers playoff wins for years. Kobe has to have Shaq to be effective in the postseason. McGrady had a great individual series, but did not deliver where it counted-- in the win column. And in about 3 more games, Vince will dispose of Iverson and the overrated Sixers on the way to taking his team to the conference finals. Loudmouth Oakley would've made that comment no matter who was the star on that team, because that's his personality. And as far as taking over in clutch situations, I can't recall any recent young player making more clutch shots in his first 3 seasons in the league than Vince has. And all of those players are just as good as Carter from the perimeter. Sorry, don't think so. The numbers don't lie, especially over an 82 game season. Carter-- 40.8% 3 pt FG Iverson-- 32% 3 pt FG Kobe-- 30.5% 3 pt FG McGrady-- 35.5% 3 pt FG How is that being just as good from the perimeter? Carter is clearly the best of those 4 from that area, and when the game is on the line, that is a huge weapon to have in your arsenal. It's not to say that the others don't have it at all, but the numbers do show Carter has the best production from the perimeter. ------------------ President of the Mo Taylor, Jason Collier, and draft Richard Jefferson fan club! I know Bryant things he would flourish and become a stat machine on another team, but I personally dont think hed be as good. Kobe has really flourished in the last 2 years. Yes, he is now a much better player, but he has the best big-man in the game and a team very well suited to the triangle. Im just saying, put Kobe on the Raptors and Vince on the Lakers, the Lakers might be even better but I think the Raptors might be worse. Just my opinion though. ------------------ I hope, when they die, cartoon characters have to answer for their sins.
