Hadn't seen a thread on it yet (if there is one lock this one up). I took my son to see this yesterday and we both loved it. The racing was cool and the story was a little sappy but told well. Larry the cable Guy was funny (and I am not really a fan of his) Tony Shaloub was also pretty good. I am pretty much a Nascar fan so I did enjoy the many cameos they had, and the play on a lot of racing stuff. Michael Keaton was also very good as the "bad" guy. So good in fact I didn't even realize it was him until I came home and looked it up. It is typical Pixar, very well done. If you have kids they wil definitely enjoy it. And most of the Adults should enjoy it also.
I heard its like 2 hours long. My mom is taking my son to see it this afternoon. Hes 2 1/2. I don't know if he can sit still that long.
It was about 2:10 total including the short before the feature. The short was okay, but I still like the snow globe one the best.
I'll see it...but I think I either might wait for DVD or wait till its a week old and use my free movie ticket. Funny thing though. It's got about a 77% rating on rottentomatoes which is pretty good by normal accounts. But for a Pixar movie its actually really dissapointing. No Pixar movie before this has averaged lower than 90% and all but one (I think it was A Bug's Life) have averaged 95% and higher. The thing I noticed and draws me off somewhat is that while all Pixar's movies feature either inanimate objects come to life or animals that can talk, all of the other movies are set in a human world, which I think provides a better sense of reality. Here, the cars are in their own world, which is a little bit weird. And then there's the story which I think is a little bit too generic. But I'll still see it at some point. *On a side note, I did happen to see District B13; I highly recommend it as a great popcorn, summer movie. The stunts those guys do are pretty incredible; very Jackie Chan-esque. Though I wish there was one more big fight scene at the end.
I read the post so fast I thought you said "my mom is taking me to see it this afternoon." lol. then i read the line again.
I saw this last night. It was very good. Amizing how they add life, and emotion to these characters. I liked the other Pixar movie references at the end. Does anyone know the name of the John Mayer song in the ending credits?
Man, they promoted the **** out of that movie. I saw the teaser like 2 years ago. It seems like it should've already died at the box office and sent to DVD already.
Very good movie. Definitely one of Pixar's best. Whoever said it was "really bad" didn't get it. Well told story, with value as usual. Not just an animated, cash cow, waste of time. Very well done. If you want to see "really bad," see Dreamworks' "Over the Hedge." Yech. Seeing it today, after "Cars" on opening night, was like ruining my movie buzz. And Dreamworks usually delivers the goods too. Shoot. "The Shaggy Dog" was better than "Over the Hedge." "Cars" was excellent, just as touted. Side note: Funny how Larry the Cable Guy & David Cross have this feud going in real life, and both (after the Rat movie comes out) will have Pixar movies... So much for one guy being the sell-out.
Iroc, I totally agree about "Over the Hedge" but my kids and wife loved it. I thought the story was pretty lame, and the characters, just ok. I did love the squirell on caffiene bit though. DD
*SPOILERS* I loved this movie...I took my kids last night and of course, the adult humor rocked...I loved the scene when they went "tractor tipping", hilarious...I also loved the outakes in the end...I don't like Nascar and loved the movie... Yeah, the story was sappy, but its for kids and if you keep that in mind, then you will be ok...
Finally saw this today. It was definitely a good movie. You don't have to be a NASCAR fan to enjoy this; sure you might not get all the in-jokes but that ain't a big deal. Really if you like cars in general you'll like this. It's more of a tribute to Route 66 than anything. The humor is great, the animation is as expected (the drive through the country is pretty freakin awesome as is the racing scenes). I thought I would have trouble with a cars-only world and I did for the first five minutes, but Pixar does a great job selling it. The story is a little on the generic side but they make good use of it. And while it is a little slow in the middle, it's no slower than Finding Nemo was at times. I'd say it ranks above A Bug's Life/Monster's Inc. but below Incredibles and Finding Nemo and on par with the Toy Stories. It's gonna be hard to top Incredibles no matter what Pixar does. I loved all the cameos, especially the NASCAR/Indy ones (Dale Jr., Richard Petty, DW, Michael Schumacher, Mario Andretti). Jeremy Piven was, as usual, awesome as the agent. The short was excellent. Much, much, much better than Boundin' And is it me or did the preview for The Ant Bully look like an almost carbon copy of Antz?
