if you listen to all of the so called "experts" that comment on the NFL...... there are a couple things that are pretty uniform in regards to the TEXANS

    1. Carr is a much better QB than Vince Young.... not to take away from what VY did at the RoseBowl, but Carr throws a better ball than Vince.

    2. Vince's speed will be almost negated in the NFL.... and to that idea... Carr is a very mobile QB and led the AFC 2 years ago in rush yds for a QB.

Do we really want a Michael Vick in Houston ? I mean Young is a great leader and really showed he is a gamer but look at all of the college QB's that just never made the transition to the NFL.

Not that Jimmy Johnson is the end all be all of NFL minds... but he commented on Fox this week that Carr should be given his bonus and the Texans should trade down in this draft for multiple picks..... he said with the right offense and a good offensive line Carr could be a top tier QB in this league.... and that with D Davis and rookie V Morency the Texans were deep enough at RB not to waste the #1 pick on another RB...... since we have so many needs on this team, not to mention DEPTH.....

I would love for the TEXANS to

    1. hire Kubiak or Saunders as HC
    2. hire Jerry Gray as DC
    3. trade the first pick for an established Offensive Tackle and picks

Carr will thrive in a vertical passing attack.... once we get an offensive minded coach in here that uses our receivers STRENGTHS and doesn't try to fit them into roles that they are not suited for.....

    We're not trading the pick.

Just because we draft Bush doesn't mean we'll hold on to the other RB's. Trade them. Not that we'll get much, but Morency might be worth a 4th.

I might trade Davis and keep Morency to relieve some cap, because Morency looked good.

Keep Wells as 3rd option and dump Hollings.

    At best Bush/Davis/Wells - At worst Bush/Morency/Wells.

    Not a bad group.

I agree that Carr will be much improved with better coaching.

You are kidding me. I get that you don't want Vince, but now you wanna trade the pick too? Are you crazy? The Texans need Bush or Young. The franchise cannot be built around Carr. He's not a leader and hasn't shown any signs of being a franchise QB in the NFL. He panics when someone is rushing him, and he locks on one receiver the whole play. Vince shows poise and lets the game come to him. When it's all said and done, Vince will have a far better career than Carr IMO.

Carr has some bad habits, that could improve significantly with better coaching.

Well they better improve this year because I'm gonna be pissed when the Texans pass up on Young.

I love how Young's speed will be negated in the NFL (which means he will be naked, save for his considerable talent throwing the football), but Bush, who made a living of running around the corner (which he was unable to consistently against the only good defense he's faced all year last week), will be able to re-live Fresno State again and again.

This isn't to say that Bush won't be a great pro, but for god's sake people, come on. The game gets harder for everybody. A

    You and many other people.

Basically, if they draft Bush and don't win at least half their games, they probably underachieved.

I think most Young supporters would understand if we drafted him and sat him for a year to develop. Bush supporters wouldn't have that much patience, because when you draft Bush, you're looking for immediate impact. Bush supporters understand that we had a good running offense and will be the first to say that if Davis gave you 6 yards, Bush would give you 6 points.

I really think we're in a no lose situation, between the 2. Whether you want quick or long term results becomes more of the factor.

First what is with all these Michael Cick comparims? When I think of Vincent Young the first name that comes to mind is Steve Young of 49ers lore.

Talking about throwing a better ball - ludicrous indeed. Says who? I will not even go there with you but I will leave you with this - one time many "experts" and "scouts" once held that [and still do] that Ryan Leaf threw a better ball than Peyton Manning. I do not want to even give other examples and details of what happened afterwards. Lets just agree for the sake of this discourse that Leafy threw better ball than Peyton - does the scouts who used Ryan's arm and accuracy to justify picking him over Peyton look stupid now or what?

There is something called "it" - you either have it or you don't. Between VY and David Carr one of them has "it" - now you decide who that person is; the other person is just a professional serviceable player at best.

you are proving my point..... with better coaching Carr will improve.... the physical talent is there....... just like it is with Young...... remember not too long ago Carr was the stud QB in college and the #1 pick..... putting up gaudy numbers against college defenses......

Carr has not been given the chance to show his talents here.... bad coaching, very little talent around him.... (AJ and DD both out for several games this season) you want him to be All Pro with Bradford and Gafney as his WR's and no TE to speak of...... LETS NOT EVEN TALK ABOUT THE O-LINE

which by all accounts is the worst in the league........

    EXAMPLE

BRETT FAVRE - Hall of Famer, still lots of talent left in the tank... terrible season, WHY ? skill positions thinned by injuries (Green, Walker), both starting OG gone...... therefore the line suffers.... Favre was scrambling all over the place and throwing interceptions because he was staring down receivers.....

thanks for saying Steve Young...... cuz that is who I would like to compare Carr to....... he was terrible with Tampa Bay, then got with a good system and Bill Walsh and became a Hall of Famer...... while we are on that topic.... what about other QB's that just needed a new system or better coaching

    KURT WARNER
    TRENT GREEN
    JAKE DELHOMME
    JAKE PLUMMER

btw, 2 of the men partly responsible for the turn around of 3 of 4 of those QB's are up for the Texans job, Saunders and Kubiak

I like the optimism but I don't thing Carr has no chance of being a Favre or Steve Young. You have to also put some of the blame on Carr for the Texans struggles. It's not like he's been a perfect QB. He has some talent. Last year in the beginning of the season he didn't give ball to Andre Johnson at all, and with a WR like that he's gonna get open even with double teams.

Carr has failed to inspire his teamates or the fans...time to move on.
It'll be good for him, and good for the Texans.

Maybe the Raiders will let his daddy attend practice.

I hate to burst your bubble..... but he has already been informed that the TEXANS are picking up his option....... so your point is really pointless

best thing to do is look for positives and be optimistic...... rather than ranting about something that isn't going to happen

OK Kreskin, but keep in mind that it is not impossible for the Texans to trade him once they have done so.

The one thing that is for sure is that if the Texans don't draft hometown hero VY and he becomes a star somewhere else, the franchise/McNair will NEVER be able to live it down. They are struggling to endear itself to fans as is despite the tremendous initial support- as many observed in a thread a few months ago in October, they were in danger of becoming irrelevant to the houston sports scene until the Rockets started sucking.

this is my point, exactly. there's far more to all of this than what happens on the field.

You can't trade Carr if you let his contract expire, you have to give him the bonus or frachise him or he becomes a free agent.

If you give him the bonus, you have to eat the full value this year under the cap. But the cap should be going up so much this year that the Texans could afford to do that. That makes him more attractive for trade because the receiving team would only be on the hook for his 5.3 (I think) million salary for the 2 or 3 years depending on which option you pick up.

The franchise tag would lessen the cap hit but the receiving team would be on the hook for more like 10 million in salary and would be looking at Carr being a free agent after the one year or continuing to have to franchise him at another 10 mil.

Clearly you pay the bonus, eat it under the cap and have a valuable trade commodity with a QB of some skill and an only slightly overpriced contract.

The bonus is sort of like painting your house before you sell it. It costs money but attracts buyers.

Interesting post. But i do not agre with #2. Vick's speed has not been negated by the NFL. Every defense has to account for his speed or they lose. Vick is an incomplete player on a mediocre team at this team, but he will raise havoc on this league for years.

Vince's speed is deceptive and he has the moves and smarts to accentuate it. He waits for the key moments to unleash it after he has checked out of his receiving options.

I'm convinced he'll be a great pro, a game changer. I'm not convinced that the Texans should take him...............yet. Maybe Bush will go back to USC and turn this into a no brainer.
