Another Senator Kennedy? The crazy speculation about Hillary Clinton's Senate seat may not be so crazy after all. A Democrat who would know tells ABC News that New York governor David Paterson has talked to Caroline Kennedy about taking the seat, which was once held by her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy. It’s not exactly shocking that Paterson would reach out to one of the most highly respected public figures in New York, but this is: Sources say Kennedy is considering it, and has not ruled out coming to Washington to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate. http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2008/12/the-note-120508.html Hey basso at least she's cute right!
not trying to derail but what is the issue with hillary voting for raises for cabinet members when she was a senator and there is some apparently some rule that would prevent you from serving in a position you voted for a raise for?
She's an attorney and writer and director of some foundations I think. But what exactly are the qualifications for Senate? Don't we have everything from professional politicians to businesspeople to doctors and lawyers there?
I don't know, just sort handing one political family dynasty seat to another political family dynasty (against the backdrop of the possible-worst ever president, also a product of a political family dynasty) seems inadvisable especially at this point. Apparently Kristen Gillibrand - a relatively new House member from western NY, has a great reputation and a fairly impressive record for a younger congressperson.
Certainly, you don't have to be anything in particular to serve on the Senate. But, from what little I know about her, she seems like a New England high-society aristocrat born with a silver spoon in her mouth and has never had to do any real work ever. If her name wasn't Kennedy, would anyone read her books or articles, or appoint her to any boards? In other words, what assurance is there that she has any actual talent? I don't know her; maybe she's sharp as a whip and was cursed to be doubted because of her parentage. And, she wouldn't be my Senator anyway. But, this seems like a celebrity pick if I ever saw one.
I like Gillibrand too! Met her at a meet and greet while she was touring Greene county last year in the Catskills. Patterson seems really hot to put an upstate woman in the slot. This might fit the bill nicely.
I'm not sure, but I did hear about that, but from the most unreliable source I listen to(Mike Church). I meant to look up what the heck he was talking about.
I think one of the articles regarding that issue said Nixon (?) had a cabinet member in the same predicament, and he just took lower pay.
she is an attorney, member of NY and DC bar. just because W was born w a silver spoon and ended up being a screw-up doesn't mean everyone else is. if her books were not good, why would people spend $$$ on them. i mean, no self-respecting person, Rep or Dem, would buy the book that W will write. no one is gonn pay $ on a book full of blank pages. it is; it is not that unusual in NY nor Calif
I like Caroline Kennedy. I think she will be a good senator and I think she can hold onto the seat. Like the poster above, I would no be too surprised to see her in the White House at some point.
I like Caroline as well and agree with everything except the White House comment. Unless she's kept it well hidden, she simply doesn't have the speech making chops of Jack, Bobby, and even Ted, which would be needed for a presidential run, IMO. Of course, I could have missed it and maybe she can uncork a great stump speech. In any event, I think she'd be a great pick! Caroline Kennedy is a classic liberal/progressive. That suits me just fine.
