Rockets summary Hakeem feels good Hakeem Olajuwon played the entire third quarter Thursday, showing no signs of fatigue and even throwing down a lefthanded alley-oop (ed: quit stealing my jokes Jon). It was his longest continuous run since last Nov. 26. "He threw it way up there," Olajuwon said of the pass from Walt Williams. "I had to go get it." More impressive, however, was Olajuwon's long, strong run. He had proved himself over the bronchial spasms that haunted him last season with the first preseason game. But he was able to run longer and harder, offering evidence he would be able to work hard enough to get his game in order. "I was very comfortable out there," Olajuwon said, sounding almost surprised. "I wasn't even tired. The coach I'm happy recognized that and let me play the entire quarter. Rudy (Tomjanovich) is the best. He can read the situation without sitting down to talk about it." Rogers recovered Carlos Rogers, recovered from the sore back that held him out of the preseason opener, got his first action of the preseason, showing no signs of the injury. He did show ample evidence of how he spent his offseason. Rogers bulked up during the offseason to 250 pounds. He said he added too much weight too quickly and had some soreness in his knees when he added basketball workouts to his weight-room work. He cut back to 244 pounds and plans to remain roughly 20 pounds heavier than last season's 225. "I was thinking, `I look real good,' " Rogers said. "But my knees were killing me. I want to stay about 244 as long as I have a program for my knee joints." $10 tickets on sale Rockets players and coaches will be make public appearances at three locations Sunday when the team makes $10 tickets available for all 41 regular-season home games. If the weight doesn't impede his efforts (e.g. when the Chuckster started working out heavily w/ Pippen and Dream) then Rogers should be a solid backup at the 5, meaning a good year: C - A healthy Dream, Cato, Rogers PF - Taylor, KT, Rogers For those that saw the games, what were some of the more innovative lineups now that Rudy has the ability to implement more traditional sets (rather than SF at C or PF)? I'm getting more and more excited about this year every day. I'll stand by my asinine statements earlier that the Rockets could be in the top 4. I'll give thaCabbage the concession, though, that it relies of course on the C spot. ------------------ "Everyone I know has a big but... come on Simone, let's talk about your but."
I read somewhere that Michael Olowokandi put on some weight, too. The guy's something like 290 lbs, now. I guess everybody's getting ready to battle the Shaq's of the world. ------------------ I got nothin'.
He's got to have some adjustments on the court and better balance his moves or other wise he'll be out again for quite sometime. Every body knows that he's injury prone,But it's great to hear he put some weight. ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
How come NO ONE reported Carlos Rogers gaining weight? I thought I read somewhere(a report by either clutch or jeff) that when they saw Carlos, he still looked skinny. If this is true, then this is really good news. Carlos hustled his ass of last year... if he has gotten stronger, then he can come flyin in for rebounds and such a lot better. ------------------ president of the dan langhi fan club.
Alaskansnowman: I believe Jeff's exact words describing Carlos Rogers at media day were- S-K-I-N-N-Y! So, hey Jeff, did Carlos Rogers look like he gained 20 pounds? Maybe it's just the way Carlos physique is, some people or wired that way, no matter how much weight they gain they still always look emaciated. ------------------
You mean there's more than one? That's great I thought one was enough. ------------------ I'm not the type to eat it up but the type to hit it raw dog and seed it up.
