just saw this on the breaking news section of http://espn.go.com/

Carlos Lee To Be Dealt To Rangers
The Brewers are trading slugger Carlos Lee to the Rangers as part of a multi-player deal, ESPN's Keith Law has learned. The Brewers are sending Lee, Nelson Cruz and a player to be named to Texas for reliever Francisco Cordero and outfielders Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix. Both teams are working on the medicials.

Mench and Nix for these two...Wow...The Rangers are the definite losers as I'm not sure Lee will be around next year...

Texeira, Blalock & Wilkerson have had really poor years (by their standards). Their offense has been nowhere near what they were expecting.

They're 5th in the AL in runs allowed & 7th in runs scored.

Tex has a pretty good bully & very shaky starting pitching. Rangers are paying for the Adam Eaton/Chris Young trade this year. Supposedly Eaton's healthy again. If they can re-sign Lee (Milwaukee was trying to do this for a month or so, looks like he's set on testing FA) this isn't a bad deal (especially if they can take the division).

Damn! Why couldn't the freaking Brewers at least wait until the series with Cinci is over this weekend? Now the Brewers are going to have it even tougher this weekend when we need them to win some games.

Sweet, one less team we have to compete against for the wild card. Too bad we suck.

I think this is a great deal for the Rangers. Would anyone here complain if traded Lidge and Preston Wilson for Carlos Lee?

Mench is very Wilson-like and has been below-average outside of a 7 day stretch in April where he hit 7 of his 12 homeruns. Cordero blew up this year as their closer and was replaced back in April or early May. Nix has done nothing in 3 partial years in the majors.

The Brewers were not competition. There is no way they would ever challenge Cincy for the wild card (that's why they traded lee). At least with him they presented a challenge to the other teams for a win here or there. Now they will be easier to beat and in turn give up wins to the teams we need to pass up.

Yeah, it seems like the Rangers got away with a pretty cheap rental. Not sure if the guy in the minors they picked up is a big time prospect, but he's got good numbers in AAA (.302, 23 HRS, 73 RBI in 104 games).

Lee turned down a 4 yr/$48M extension from the Brewers. Thus, the trade.

So you think if Dunn turned down an extension, Cincy woudl trade him? It would be worth keeping him if they thought they were making a run for the division but they are not so they want to get what they can from him

Dunn's signed for next season & the club has an option for '08.

If you're speaking hypothetically, then yeah, if Cincy were in the Brewer's place this season & Dunn said he was leaving, sure they'd look to trade him.

The best thing about this is that the Cards didn't get him.

WORD! El Caballo hits pretty well against us anyway! Throw him in a lineup with fellow Astro-killers (Rolen, Edmonds, Poo-Holes) and they'd DESTROY us!

    Carlos Lee a Ranger

Done Deal...I would have done a Wilson and Lidge for Lee in a heartbeat, but yeah, I get your point...I just wish that we would do something...

This was a steal for Texas. The Ranger offense sucks this year and it's hard to get good pitchers down there.

And thus, they'll never win anything... even if they sneak into the playoffs.

That is the point behind the example. Cincy is NOT in the same position as the brewers so they would not trade Dunn if he was a free agent at the end of the season. If a team thinks they can make it this year they are not going to give up their best player because it will help them make it next year.

Anyone wanna bet that Lee is an Astro next year? I mean, if they know whats good for 'em.

This is from a Yahoo article. I'm not putting the link up ... just trust me, b****es.

    & I quote:

The 30-year-old Lee hit .286 with 28 home runs and 81 RBIs in 102 games for Milwaukee, already his fifth straight season with at least 25 homers. He is a .284 career hitter over eight seasons with the Chicago White Sox (1999-04) and Milwaukee (2005-06).

If he was a free agent, Lee said he "wouldn't mind" playing in Texas or other teams in warm climates. He owns a 100-acre ranch outside of Houston.
