Andy Katz on the NBA today show just reported the Rockets had a deal worked out with Detroit and also Dallas (3-way) to send Carlos Rogers there for John Wallace (he's going there in the Laettner deal), but it is dead now as we got Mo to play the PF spot. Not that a dead trade necessarily means a lot, but it is a sign to anyone who was speculating on potential trades that Carlos is on the block and not KT. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Interesting. I am not a fan of Wallace's anyway. He has not done much in the league. Carlos is at least very productive in the small spurts he does play. Of course, this is providing he is healthy. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
I think our perfect, and there's no way we can get better.....we just do some deals using Drew and maybe Rogers or KT to get cap space next year........ ------------------
Thank goodness that deal didn't go through. Healthy or not, 'Los is a great guy to have around a locker room filled with impressionable youngsters. ------------------ WE WILL WATCH THEM FALL... Next year
It wasn't really worked out The Cat, he just said there was talk about such a possible trade. If Carlos is lurking, I don't want his feelings hurt. ------------------ I've posted so much that what I say must be true. The latest on Maurice Taylor
I thought he said something to the effect of a deal would have gone down if not for Taylor coming- I guess I could have been wrong though. If I was, sorry Carlos. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com 4th Friday of August= Rocket Day 1999-Steve Francis 2000-Maurice Taylor
The reason that the Rockets would do such a trade would be to open up more cap room next season. Wallace will be a free agent after this year, while Rogers will still have one year left for approx. $3.8 mil. For what he'd add to the team (especially now with Mo Taylor and the emergence of Kenny Thomas), that might be considered an unreasonable burden on the cap (moreso than Walt's $5.8 mil next year). As much as I like Carlos, I would have done that trade to open up more cap room next year. ------------------ [This message has been edited by BimaThug (edited August 29, 2000).]
According to the NBA salary site, Wallace is not a FA until after the 01-02 season, same as Carlos. The trade would have been made based on skills alone- contracts would not have played a role. http://members.home.net/victony/daldata.htm ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? And by the way, Rogers will only make 2.3M in te final year of his contract. http://members.home.net/victony/daldata.htm ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com 4th Friday of August= Rocket Day 1999-Steve Francis 2000-Maurice Taylor
I would much rather have Carlos because he is a much better and smarter player than Thomas ever will be. When he was a starter, he played his ass off and averaged around 12-14 ppg, that really impressed me. Especially that one game after the man's brother died, he sucked it up and played with some heart. I wouldn't really want to give up a player that is willing to give his all to his team, even if that means injury problems. Not only that, but we also need somebody who hustles after the ball, after every rebound. He is currently the only guy on our team, besides maybe Shandon who will do that. I say we keep him, its not like we cant afford his cheap contract anyways. If he isnt hampered with injuries next year, he could even replace KT in the line-up.
I'm not sure victony has his information right ont this one - he reports Rogers as being on a 5 year 10 million dollar deal whereas almost every other site you will visit reports Rogers on a 5 year 13million dollar deal. If it's a 13million dollar deal then it's pretty likely that rogers will earn 3.1 mill this year and 3.8 mill next year. http://rocketdavo.tripod.com/ ------------------
Maybe the Pistons requested Los instead of KT ------------------ "Never give a sucker an even break. Nor wisen up a chump."
I rather give KT than Rogers to the Pistons if that rumor is still alive, because one thing, Rogers really hustle on the court ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
Isn't John Wallace a small forward anyway? I'd pull the trigger on that deal pretty quickly - an athletic 6'8 SF who can score in a variety of ways (and who plays no D) - sounds good to me! And all we would be giving up is our 3rd string PF? Why are we so negative about this deal again? ------------------
I like Carlos a lot, and I hope that he can stay healthy this year. However, I wouldn't have minded seeing him go to Detroit. With the signing of Mo and the need to give Kenny some minutes in order to develop, I think Carlos might be the odd man out of the rotation. I think the Rockets would have been doing Carlos a favor by sending him to Detroit. Isn't that where he's from? ------------------
Los is a keeper. He is similar to Shandon in that he goes out and does whatever is needed. He is not looking to be the star of the team, he is not looking to pad his stats to get a big fat contract. The guy just wants to win. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
Another interesting Mo Taylor-John Wallace connection: they were two of the three primary considerations (Othella was the third) in the Knick-Clipper-Grizzlies three way that fell through before the deadline and pi$$ed Mo off so bad. GM's must have some respect for his game. I don't know why Rudy would go after him. I remember him explicitly stating that he didn't plan on going after guys who would just clog up the lane - which is what Wallace would do. I don't believe he has much range on his shot. I wouldn't mind seeing Carlos go. The Rocket Guy (who I don't put much faith in) said he didn't get along with Rudy. ------------------ [This message has been edited by oakdogg (edited August 29, 2000).]
Man, I am glad that deal didn't go down! John Wallace is a dime-a-dozen player. He's just one of many of the new breed of thin, athletically gifted, no defense playing frontcourt types that think they're the $h!t when they're on the court. Funny though that this would follow Achebe's "NO-VCR" rule. When the Rockets went to New York this season with both Cat and Shandon in the starting lineup, there was a brief stretch in the game when Wallace abused his smaller opponent. Of course, he can't do anything when anyone near his size is guarding him. Guys, WE NEED DEFENSE. ------------------ Mo money, Mo problems... .....and if you guys had questions about Mo's rebounding - check out Wallace's stats. Those are pathetic if he plays PF most of the time. Cabbage, everything you said about John Wallace is equally applicable to 'Los. One big advantage Wallace has over 'Los is the fact that he'll actually play in more than 60% of the games. ------------------
