Wow. I like the article the Chronicle wrote recently about the NBA and David Stern. Said something to the likes of "Stern, you wanted the NBA to be a global game. Well Congrats, you got it."
Good for him because he wasn't that effective in the NBA. When I've seen Arroyo play international ball, he looks like a star.
What is that, 10 NBA vets that have left now? How many must leave before some posters can pull their head out of the sand and see that talent in the NBA is decreasing because of it?
i dont think arroyo was a bad player he would have been a good backup PG here, but for a guy with so much talent he was bounced around teams a lot i think he has an attitude issue (i think that was the case in utah or detroit which traded him for nothing) but hey get is going to get paid over in europe, good for him.
Yep yep..... These are rotation players leaving which means a guy LOWER on the totem pole now gets to play. Which...means worse play. DD
Doesn't the addition of players like Dirk, Scola, Manu, Parker, Yao, AK47, Gasol, Okur etc offset some of the losses? If there never was the influx of foreign players in recent years, then the current outflow would be quite a bit smaller. On a short timeline, things have dipped. On a longer timeline, things are better. If the view is that the NBA could be at a higher level than it currently is, then there are other areas in addition to defections overseas to attribute blame to. If players like: Stromile Swift Kwame Ricky Davis Gerald Green Zach Randolph Marbury Curry Tinsley Camby Snyder JR Smith Antoine Walker etc played closer to their potential, the NBA would be much stronger. There are some other players that could have had longer careers if they really had the passion - fire for the NBA: Cato Mo Taylor etc
What? Do you see the caliber of players that are leaving? The majority are role players that hardly made an impact in their NBA careers. The NBA isn't losing guys that will hurt them. These guys would never get that kind of money in the NBA which is one of the main reasons that they are leaving.
Yes, but once he along with others leave, the NBA will replace them with D-league talent....thus the weakening of the league. DD
Their spots on team rotations are being filled by worse players, not better players. They are mostly not starters, but have been decent players. I know I'd rather have Arroyo backing up Alston than Brooks; prefer Krstic as Yao's backup; would take Childress over Head, and Nachbar over Harris. They aren't any worse than Brent Barry, our big offseason pickup. So, I wouldn't say their departure doesn't have an impact.
Theres nothing you can do about that. NBA teams aren't going to give those guys that much money. I think everything cancels out. We still have the best international players in the game playing on American soil. Even with all the shake ups, some of the best in Euro/International ball still aspire to come to the US and play with the highest level of competition. The level of NBA play isn't any lower than it was at the start of the season. When we lose guys like Manu, Dirk or a guy like LeBron, then we should worry. Right now, not so much.
With the exception of Childress these guys all should have been in the Euroleagues anyway developing a game that would make them more prominent in the NBA. Alot of this is just the "bending back" from that period in the early 2000s when the NBA was drafting too heavily in the promise of European players.
who should they drafted ahead of these players that are moving over now? there were any good domestic players at the time either.
Not everyone is PROMINANT in the NBA, in fact maybe 2 or 3 players on each team....making 12 ....NON PROMINANT. DD
I really liked his style of play... I think we would have been a great backup PG and AB 3rd string. Show him the ropes... I enjoyed watching him play too bad... Jameer "Sorry" Nelson took most of the playing time
It shouldnt matter The players that are leaving are getting there $$ but are they type of players that can be easily replaced.
