Apparently, Reese will resign today (not sure if it was his decision or not). Wrod here in Austin is that Greg Davis will most likely be reassigned sometime this week. As many as 4 coaches could be gone in a major shakeup.

    IT'S ABOUT FREAKIN TIME!

Not sure who they will get to replace these guys. As long as it's coaches that have a clue as to how to game plan and actually develop players (Shoud Derrick Johnson still weigh the same as he did when he was a frosh?).

Who do you guys think they should bring in? I say Jerry Gray (Buffalo Bills DC) or Bo Pellini (if he doesn't get the Nebraska job or hired by Stoops) for DC. Not too sure who is available for OC.

The Longhorns are not the Texans, Astros, or Comets.

Then tell me where this should go. I assumed that this was the place for other sports. Is it limited to just Houston sports?

    Reese to resign at Texas
    Defensive coordinator leaving Brown's staff

University of Texas defensive coordinator Carl Reese will announce his resignation today. No formal news conference is planned, but Reese is expected to meet with reporters in Austin to discuss his decision.

A university source denied reports that Reese was pressured to step down.

"Call it what they want, but (he) didn't want to leave. That's for sure," another source close to the situation said.

Head coach Mack Brown was unavailable for comment.

Reese's departure has been a topic of speculation since Texas' 65-13 loss to Oklahoma on Oct. 11. Three days after the defeat, Reese said he would not resign at season's end.

At the time, Brown said all of his coaches would be evaluated at the end of the season.

Texas' defense has performed superbly through most of Reese's tenure, finishing in the top 25 nationally in yards allowed in all but his first season. The Longhorns finished 104th against the run, 75th against the pass and 85th overall in 1997, the last year of former head coach John Mackovic's tenure.

Under Reese, UT steadily improved from 56th overall in his first season to No. 1 in 2001. The Longhorns, who finished seventh or better from 1999-2001, were 25th this season.

Brown criticized the defense's play after losses to Arkansas and Oklahoma in 2003. Prior to UT's loss to Washington State in the Holiday Bowl, Brown listed improvements on defense as points of emphasis this offseason.

Brown originally brought Carl Torbush with him from North Carolina to be his defensive coordinator, but Torbush later accepted the head position with the Tar Heels.

    Reese announces resignation
Search begins for new defensive coordinator at Texas; no other staff changes expected, Brown says
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

University of Texas defensive coordinator Carl Reese made it official this morning, announcing his resignation Tuesday morning. Head coach Mack Brown said no other staff changes are forthcoming.

"I can't thank everyone at the University of Texas and coach Brown enough," said Reese, who was hired in 1998. "In 37 years of coaching, this is the best job I've ever had. It's been six great years filled with a bunch of wonderful memories."

Reese served as defensive coordinator at Louisiana State University from 1995 to 1997. He inherited a Texas defense that ranked 85th nationally in 1997 and turned it into a unit that produced five consecutive Top 25 defensive finishes. But Reese came under fire last season after lackluster defensive performances in losses to Arkansas and Oklahoma and a win over Texas Tech, a game in which Texas gave up 527 yards and 40 points.

Attending the American Football Coaches Association convention in Florida, Texas head coach Mack Brown said in a statement, "When we came here Carl was one of the first coaches we identified that could help us turn this thing around. We hate to see him leave, but Carl's a great coach and an even better person and I respect his decision."

Brown said he would begin a search for a new defensive coordinator but expected no other staff changes.
