Against the Wolves and Kings, Landry's minutes were significantly fewer than Hayes. I am assuming it is because Hayes is a superior defensive player, which was important against Al Jefferson. I suppose Hayes also needed to defend artest at times also. This highlights a concern of mine. Based on my own evaluation of Landry's defense, it seems that this isn't just a case of Hayes being a very good defender in the post. Rather, I've seen Landry be somewhat lost out there on D, or slow/unable to get into position for defense. I'd like to hear from Clutchfans -- what's your assessment of Landry's defense? During The Streak, some of our best play came when Scola and Landry were in the lineup together, and I would like to see much more of that combo. With it, we do not have an offensive liability on the floor. Life for Tmac is much easier because both can run the PNR. Both get you second shots. However, both are foul prone and average at defense. Looking at the playoff picture, the best teams in the west has a dynamic low post presence that will require defense: Gasol/Bynum; David West; Stoudamire/Shaq; Duncan. I'm hoping we can land a top 2 seed for this very reason.
Chuck is a better defender against stronger low post players Landry is an energy guy that can score under the basket and hit an outside shot. We're gonna need both of them, but Landry is too small to play center IMO
I am going to say that Hayes gets most of the minutes in the playoffs. When the games slow down and become half court, Defense is what counts. Hayes is our best low post defender.
He holds his own when it comes to help-side defense and seems to understand how to rotate, but on the ball there is still no better option than Hayes. Even if you give up three feet vertically, you can't replace strength and IQ. Also.... is it not 'conundrum'?
yea i'm starting to notice landry's minutes have been decreased. i think adelman wants more defense right now. but i hope eventually landry will get 25-28 minutes b/c we really need to play him more with tmac and rafer, the only good passers that we have.
It's nice that we have both options. In the playoffs it'll come down to match ups that determines playing time, plus whoever is playing better in that particular game will get more minutes down the stretch (like Kenny Smith/Sam Cassell during the championship years).
Points are going to be harder to come by in the playoffs as teams will be sending an extra guy at T-Mac on the pick and roll. That said, we're definitely going to want to see Landry rolling off that pick rather than Chuck.
i've noticed the minutes go down as well, but assumed it's because landry's still not 100%. it looks like his explosiveness is less, uhm, forceful than before he went down. as it were.
Landry has been fairly poor on D since he came back, I expect as he plays his way into game shape, Chuck's minutes will decline. DD
The Rockets will need Woods to contribute a little at the C spot. At least he is 7'2'' with 6 extra fouls to use on other big teams. I am sure he will see some minutes with next two days to practice Woods into the system.
When you exclude the guys like Shaq and Eddy Curry, Hayes is one of the better post defender's in the league. Hayes' minutes were almost non-existent because we needed scoring and we played alot of teams that had weak frontlines. When that's the case Hayes is pretty useless. But yeah we need both. At this point everyone except for Rafer, Battier, Tracy, and Scola are out there on a situational match-up basis anyways.
I love Chuck's game. But if we want to have a decent chance of advancing in the playoffs, Carl Landry needs to get at least 20-25 mpg.
He would against the better teams but then if he picks up 3 fouls like he did against Phoneix its going to be a struggle for minutes
My guess is they brought in Woods as a last resort. He will barely see the court. By the way, some people are overly critical about spelling and grammar in here, but I do agree that you should at least spell the words in the thread title correctly.
Even though I've loved Landry since preseason, I think Chuck should get more minutes. Landry should come in when we need an offensive spurt. He's good at that.
I still don't get how you can go through life playing basketball without learning how to shoot free throws. And doesn't he have shooting coaches or something? I'm still a huge Chuck fan, though.
the free throw problem i believe is mental and i understand more than the layups. even mcgrady is struggling with his free throws, and its the kind of thing where the more you struggle, the harder it is to recover. but layups? cmon.
