Not sure if this was posted or not. I looked briefly and didnt see it. Anyways, Just and FYI, PHOENIX -- Carl Landry played his second game as a Sacramento King on Sunday, and let's just say that things went a lot better for him in this one than they did in his first. Landry got off to a quick start with eight points and five rebounds in the first quarter, and led his team in scoring with 18 in a 104-88 loss to the Suns. While the ultimate result was obviously not a desirable one, the improvement of Landry's comfort level is something that's important for the team as they rely on him for production as a key member of the starting lineup. And the fact that he's settling in so quickly -- without any real time to get to know his new teammates -- is a big plus. "Really, I've never had a practice with these guys yet," Landry said. "I was a little bit more comfortable out there, and it's only going to get better. My coach said [Saturday] it was probably one of the worst games you'll see for the remainder of the season for me. But the jitters weren't there as much today." Before being dealt to Sacramento, Landry was a poster-boy for the mythical genius of Rockets GM Daryl Morey. Houston traded for him on draft night in 2007 after Seattle drafted him 31st overall, and Landry was putting up starter's numbers off the bench for the Rockets this season. Because of both his stellar production and his popularity within the organization, Landry admitted that the trade that sent him out of town was somewhat of a shock -- especially given the fact that he was in the discussion for some post-season honors while playing for the Rockets. "Sixth Man of the Year, Most Improved Player of the Year, the fans were really liking me," Landry said. "I was a fan favorite in Houston -- like you said, I was kind of blindsided. But at the same time, I think everything happens for a reason. It could be a blessing in disguise, I mean, great chemistry on this team, great group of young guys, and I'm excited to be here." The Kings do have a nice young core of players: with rookies Tyreke Evans and Omri Casspi in the starting lineup, the team is going to improve sooner rather than later. And with Landry now firmly starting with them, after spending his entire career coming off the bench, it's likely that his season averages of 16 points and 5.5 rebounds per game are going to improve as well. http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/02/22/...trade-from-houston/?ncid=txtlnkusspor00000002
He sure sounds pretty humble  I'm a fan of Mandry, but is it just me reading things incorrectly or did Landry not show any signs of sadness at all. It seems from the get go that he was fine with the trade, not really gonna miss Houston much. Maybe it's the promise of a starting role and a starters minutes.
he's a professional Ball player that comes from Milwaukee. He was only in Houston for 3 years. He spent more time in college. doesn't surprise me one bit.
He is just being prof and he understands the nba is a buisness. Im sure he was not to happy about it..Good luck Carl!!
That's him trying to make the best of whatever situation he is in. He'd probably be all smiles if we traded him to Siberia. He said after coming back from getting shot that he blessed just to be alive and playing basketball. The way he's handled this is admirable.
so because he will be a starter for less than half of the season, does this take him out of the 6th man of the year running? Maybe that's a stupid question, but he played the majority of the year coming off the bench so it seems kind of unfair to penalize the guy because he got traded and is now a starter.
THAT is how you handle the media after a trade. Stay professional, talk fondly of the team/fans you left but act excited about the new opportunity. If you want to maximize your exposure and $$ in this league it's best to do what Landry just did no matter how upset he might be. Is is possible that Carl has been writing McGrady's blogs over the least three years and not Shane Battier? Food for thought.
I believe the qualification for the 6th man award was to some off the bench more than you start. And since he's come off the bench his whole time here as a Rocket, it more than covers the time needed to be the 6th man.
I'm sure its a combination of things. Which includes him keeping things in perspective. He is making millions of dollars and gets to play basketball for a living. Life is good and he knows it. Probably one of the many things that makes him an awesome person and player.
He will be playing there (probably for a long time). You can't ask him to show regret more than excitement (even though he maybe, deep inside). It's like after I changed job, I always tell the mangement that I am happier with the new work place.
I don't remember which thread it's in exactly, maybe the Landry official thread, but there is that one quote where someone asked him if he'll miss the Houston fans and he said no. That was very saddening.
Interesting.....Carl totally shocked, I wonder if his brother felt the same with being traded...now Marcus is with the Celts and Carl with Kings. I guess the entire Landry family understands now that the NBA really is a business!
Well you know his payday is coming soon. He's probably glad he won't have wait and beg and end up ridiculously underpaid again.
Remember when he was fined $10k for standing during a game? He was really mad about it. A lot of players won't even flinch, but he felt bad because he said it was a lot of money lost (especially for a stupid reason). I admire that he still knows the value of money.
I'm sure after being shot and chased down and surviving, he probably has a very positive outlook on life. Everything after that tragic accident is gravy for him I bet. Escaping death puts things into perspective I'm sure. how do you feel about the trade? Man i'm just glad to be alive and playing the sport I love. I miss Landry
