at least that is what the Boston media is saying. Everett pulls a mo-fo Babe Ruth, and gets smashed by Boston media.

Here is a note I got from a friend in Boston.

<a href="http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/228/sports/Waiting_for_Everett_to_cross_line+.shtml">Columnist known to offend Everett calls Everett offensive to Red Sox Fans</a>

I really love his line "And now he's taunted the best team in baseball, offending fans at friendly Fenway." Yeah....I can just hear those rowdy Fenway fans say, "Wahht is Fenway Pahk coming to. I am offended!"

That's crazy! EVERETT was the one that was hit. Instead of running out to the mound like a psycho, he told the pitcher that he was going to take him yard, he did so, and people are happy he was traded and want to run him out of town!? I think he did the right thing, if a pitcher wants to hit somebody, you pay the consequences. Good job Carl!

    Jimy Williams was a nut.

Maybe Everett will become less crazy now. Williams had the worst line-ups ever, didn't let players get enough at bats to get in a groove, benched them at bizarre times, and mismanaged his bull pen. Then he alienated veterans and denied simple requests.

And yet Saint Jimy is always in the right in conflicts with Duqette, Everett, etc according to the Boston media. I'm glad he was fired. I vacillate between liking and hating the Red Sox (how MUCH people here love them annoys me at times ;) ), but I wouldn't wish Williams on any team.

I don't know if Moyer hit him on purpose or not, that may change my opinion of this situation. From what I saw, it may have just been a pitch that got away, I don't know. Moyer isn't exactly a hard thrower, and he certainly wasn't throwing at his head.

Ok, so he didn't charge the mound. If that had happened to Bagwell, I have a feeling he would have just gone to 1st and taken his base and shut up.

Maybe Carl wasn't saying he was gonna take Jaime deep ??? He could have been pointing upwards and saying to Moyer "Man did not land on the moon Jaime. It's not possible."

It was the grabbing of the crotch and spitting towards the mound after the homer that will get Everett in trouble. The recent precendents indicate Everett will be fined but not suspended, although Everett's past behavior may come into play.

Well gr8-1, I have to disagree.

I'd love to have 'Jurassic' :D back in Houston. He'd be a solid fit at CF, he's another left-handed bat, good speed on the bases (though he makes some of the most amazing decisions at times), and may add a competivite edge to a team that is,no offense, rather colorless.

Don't get me wrong, I love the professionalism of the Astros, we're blessed to have such a great group of guys. But it would be nice to have a little brashness and cockiness in the clubhouse.

And Carl has never lacked in those departments!

You never know, a little swagger and attitude could stop the 'win 3, lose 2, win5, lose3,...' pattern that the Astros have fallen into over the course of the season.

    ROFLMAO!!!! :D

The title of this post oughta be, "Carl Everett Should Be Shot". Trading's too good for him.

Good to see though that we've got someone stepping in to fill Albert Belle's shoes.

It looked pretty clear that Moyer did hit him on purpose, that's why Everett was so pissed. Right before the pitch, Moyer complained to the umpire that Everett was standing on the plate. He stood on the mound and flailed his arms and the umpire came out and said something. I think the very next pitch nailed Everett. Everett does stand on the plate though, he always has.

Bagwell said on Up close he'd love to have the guy back to play center. Carl was never a problem to us and Houston seemed like the environment that let Everett do his thing and be left alone. Bagwell reiterated this too. If for some dumb reason we let Alou go, bring back Carl. Dont know what his contract is though. Just wishful thinking.

    Guys,

Everett was definitely crowding the plate. Moyer complained.. I was watching the game and listening to Seattle announcers (because they're awesome!) and they said it looked like the Ump told Moyer that if Everett was going to stand there, he might get hit - or something a long those lines.. So Moyer hit him..

I think it was pretty tacky of Everett to grab his crotch... I mean, c'mon.. Getting hit is part of the game. I think if he was truly professional, he would have let the home run speak for itself. Instead, he had to show up Moyer. I think it's bs..

I will admit to being a pretty big Mariner's fan though, so I am a little biased. They (M's) are the only Seattle team that I've become a fan of since I moved out here. I just can't get into the Sonics or Seahawks... but the Mariner's.. well- they're pretty damn good!

Everett's plate stance is arguably legitimate. It doesn't violate the "letter of the law," even though a lot of baseball people dislike it. Only the Mariners complain about it.

Intentionally beaning a player is not legitimate. Moyer obviously did this.

Everett shouldn't have done something so tacky. But Moyer was obviously initially in the wrong.

I agree w/ you that one can argue over Everett's stance, but if you're in the strikezone, you gotta expect to get hit. I don't think Moyer was beaning him. I think he was actually trying to brush him back.... I'll agree with you that Moyer should have some responsibitily for hitting Everett, but that doesn't excuse Everett's tasteless pomp & circumstance trot around....

"Intentionally beaning a player" is not legitimate? Why not? They have a remedy for this, it's getting a free base. And if the guy's really on the plate, he deserves to get hit. Standing outside the batters box is never legitimate.

Only a punk would grab his crotch on the field like that. What a great example for kids.

take a look at everetts batting stance, he's been hit actually INSIDE the strikezone before, in his normal stance his foot is within about an inch or two of home plate, which is VERY VERY much outside the batters box. It will take an ump calling a few strikes on balls that hit him before he changes that stance.

actually it does violate the letter of the law, the problem is that there is no set penalty in the rulebook for violating that rule, just that it's a rule.
