Pitching Probables: :9/12 Miller vs Williams **7:05pm FSSW 9/13 Oswalt vs Morris **6:05pm (NO TV!!!) 9/14 Redding vs Haren **1:05pm FSSW How can there be no Television coverage of Saturday's game? I hope this game is on FOX other wise...damn! I hope the rested players play a great game tomorow. WWL Fox Sports list of current streaking / slumping teams. Top five teams 1. San Francisco: Getting healthy and better at the right time ... 2. Houston: Return of Roy (Oswalt) gives inspirational lift. 3. White Sox: One good week, one bad one. 4. Minnesota: Twins trying to show they belong. 5. Oakland: Not straight A's this past week. Bottom five teams 1. Detroit: Tigers won't be the worst ever, just worst of their time. 2. Cincinnati: Who are those guys in Reds uniforms? 3. Mets: Hey guys, there's still two weeks left. 4. Colorado: Team packed it in weeks ago. 5. Cleveland: On-the-job training makes it look bad. Fungus taking over MMP
LWW Sorry folks... Saturday's game WILL NOT BE TELEVISED!!! My question is, why the hell was today's game televised (a thursday 1pm game in Milwaukee...wtf!), when they knew perfectly well what was in store for Saturday. They could see this coming for the last two weeks... why not switch and broadcast Saturday. FSSW won't be "paying extra" to televise anymore games than neccessary, and I guarantee you they'd be getting some of the biggest ratings of the year with Oswalt vs. Morris.
That's what I dont understand. Sure it will be a late installation the the Television schedule, but it will bring in a a lot of viewers. Oswalt back and pitching against a major opponent! Come on....I seriously can't believe we had all the Pads and Brewers games on tv, but only 2 of 3 for the Cards games!!
what a load of crap. i can't wait for the astros and rockets to get their own network. Fox Sports blows
And... its not like there's not a precedent for this. Earlier this year, FSSW added an Astros vs. Cubs game and dropped one of the Padres games at MMP. This was based on both the importance of the game, and the fact that MLB had that new policy where they would have blacked out the game on WGN. Now, they've got an EVEN BETTER game, and there's not a good chance they'll do anything. All MLB teams don't televise every game... they just do their best to avoid not showing the BIG GAMES! Before the season, I could have told u this would be a big game... and its only gotten bigger since.
I don't think Saturday night home games are ever televised, are they? Hey, it's Saturday night. If you've got nothing more to do than watch the game on TV, then you should get off you butt and go to the game. I'll be there Saturday night and I live in Dallas.
With the Cards struggling, we should be poised to win 2 of 3...The Cards and Stros' is always a great series and it will be tough... Go Stros...
If that's the thinking, then why was a Thursday 1pm game televised? Granted, it was a road game, but still... do that many people have nothing better to do on a Thursday afternoon than watch a game against a last place team? I know Saturday night shouldn't be a stay at home and watch TV night, but its more of that sort of night than a Thursday 1pm game is...
I think the key element here might be that the game was a road game. Think about it in terms of the way football on TV works. Now, I know that we're dealing with different systems here (NFL has a league-wide, national TV deal while MLB leaves the individual teams to negotiate their own local TV deals) but I think some basic principles apply. An owner is not going to give away for free what he can charge money for. If you have a Saturday night, pennant race game that is not sold out, should you give the game away free on TV? It seems reasonable to me that if there are tickets available and you want to see the game, buy a ticket and see it. Now, if the game is a sell-out, it does indeed suck that the game is not televised. But your "They showed a Thursday afternoon road game so they should show a Saturday night home game" argument doesn't really hold water. Saturday night home games haven't been broadcast in Houston in a while.
Neither have Sunday games... C'mon now, it's the Lord's day...the day of rest...meaning we should be able to relax on the couch w/ a nice cold one watching a pennant race unfold on the tele.
I do understand the logic, and ideally, owners would have it set up like the NFL (which, btw, is so far and above any other sports league in the US... its not even funny), but the Astros did not determine what games would be shown on FSSW... Fox Sports and Time Warner made the call there. My only argument was based on the agreement that FSSW has to show a "certain" number of games per year, regardless of home or road. That being the case, why broadcast any game vs. Milwaukee (home or road) opposed to a game against St. Louis. Also, this TV schedule was made before the year even started, thus there was no thinking of pennant race/incentive to sell out when putting in the schedule. It just looks like they decided not to show any Saturday night games just to be consistent, and make it easy on the other TV people...regardless of the magnitude of the game. (now that blows).
WW? woody williams has only like1 win in his last 8 starts, and the last one he got he allowed like 6 runs but the cardinals scored a lot for him. matt morris hasnt been the same matt morris from past seasons, and he hasnt been doing well after being activated from the dl. redding and haren both suck. we'll see what happens
