Milo's reporting that the Cardinals have acquired aging slugger Larry Walker, no report on what they gave up. Not like they needed any help for that offense.

    Edit1 : http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1853911

    There's the story on ESPN.

edit 2 : ok - there's a broadcast of walker saying goodbye to his teammates, and all the colorado sources say it's a done deal.

But St Louis says they haven't done it.

That would stink. I had plans on catching them. If true, Walker is bonafied. Cardinals look unbeatable.

Quick question: If a team were to block a trade that happens during the season but after the trade deadline, would that team have to pick up the player that was to be traded?

I know Walker is making a lot of money and is injury prone, but one would think that the Cubs or any other National League team with playoff hopes would try and block the trade.

And with Larry Walker and his "no-trade clause," if the trade he approved were to be blocked, could he have any say about not going to that team?

I guess that wasn't a quick question afterall, but does anyone know the answer(s)?

From my understanding when a team waives a player and another team cliams him, the origional team has the right to retract the waiver. If they dont do that then the team claiming him is stuck with him. For instance if the Cubs were to claim him to block the trade they would be stuck with him and his remaining contract.

Im guessing the no-trade clause doesnt keep another team from claiming him off waivers and keeping him. A no-trade clause doenst keep someone from being release. However i have no idea of whether he has to aprove a waiver trade. It seems like he does but i dont know why.

You can trade a player as long as no one claims him on waivers. No team in their right minds would claim him and pay Walkers full salary.

the trade dealine is a misnomer in baseball...

it was the non-waiver trade deadline that passed... there's still trades until the end of this month.

I don't think anybody can stop that St louis offense. They should go ahead and hand them their National League Championship banner.

2003: I don't think anybody can stop that New York offense. They should go ahead and hand them their World Series Championship trophy.

Not making fun of you, just noting that baseball is unpredictable.

I didn't say World Series. I said National League Champions. No NL team will even come close to beating this team in October.

The Cards remind me of the 102-60 Astros team in the 90's.

The question is, can they win it all?

    Not with their starting pitching.
