i had a 2002 camry le with 77k miles on it that got totaled when i was hit by some guy who was going 70-80 on a 35 mph street. it was a hit and run and the guys in the car literally got and ran. anyhow...long story short...usaa is my insurance company and they offered 11987 for the car after TTL. she said the offer was based off of the prices of comparable camry's in my area. further she said the car's interior was in good condition, which would be the only other major depreciating factor outside of the milage that i know of.

from my research on kbb.com i saw that comparable camry's go for about 14250 (i don't know if those prices included TTL, but i am guessing they didn't). i guess i'm just going to talk to the lady tomorrow and let her know what complied. has anyone had an experience at haggling with insurance companies? any advice would be nice. thanks.

    Hello,

My son totalled his truck a few years ago when he lived at home.
The insurance company lowballed us big time - I went out and got my own comparibles for them along with the online documentation.

They still balked, but I had read somewhere that they have to settle with you within a set amount of time ( in Idaho I believe it was 30 days) so I just let them wait and sure enough right at the last minute they agreed to my #s - which were a LOT higher than theirs.

Good luck - don't let them push you into a bad deal.

You took a bath on Neiman's AND got your car totalled?? No wonder you're posting drunk in the D&D!!

Most often, these insurers don't even end up paying the settlement themselves. Instead, their insurer (also known as the re-insurer) does. So the more you hassle their agent/adjuster, the more you are costing your actual insurer by using up their employee's time. I would suggest, like powerchuter did, to keep arguing with them for as long as you can and most likely they will up the settlement figures just to be rid of you.

Many years ago I totaled a car and had to haggle with Allstate ~ I ended up getting 4000 more than the original offer.

They all lowball, so stick to your guns.
