Talk to Shawn at The New CJ Sounds on Gessner just north of I-10. He owns the joint and is a poster here.

    Tell him you're from ClutchFans.

He gave me a good deal on a new Alpine for about $200. It kicks ass and I'd recommend him to anyone.

    pioneer's premier line.

buy one off ebay from a seller with a >= 99.9% feedback rating

I'll second this. Great value, only you've got to be aware that some models have no built in amp so you must install an aftermarket 4 channel amp. I'd say this is a good thing, since most in-dash amps are wimpy depending on door speakers efficiency.

Don't mean to derail the thread, but I have a subwoofer that need to be installed. How much does it usually cost for somebody to install them?

Are you talking about building a custom box for your trunk or wiring in a powered sub?

Nothing custom. Just replacing the stock sub with a brand new stock sub.

Uh... I can't help you other than to say you should be able to talk someone into doing that for free. It's a 5 minute job, max.

I have a 2005 Camry, and I replaced all of the factory speakers with Boston Acoustic speakers powered by a kenwood amp. I don't have a sub, but my system sounds crystal clear and will hurt your ears if i turn it up too loud!!! I have 2 tweeters for the dash, 2 front door speakers and 2 rear speakers.

    you guys are freaking awesome.

so i am looking for a pioneer one. i dont plan on changing the speakers ever..or getting a "system", so i really dont know what features to eliminate. i dont want to overpay for things i don't need..

i'd probably get the cheapest amongst those listed. Just cause it sounds like you'd be happy with any upgrade, and you won't see a *huge* difference between those in sound quality (my opinion anyway)..

Beware...if you turn the bass up and listen to your music loud, you will have the possibility of having to change your speakers in a couple of years. Usually the factory speakers aren't too great, and they won't be great at handling the 50x4 wattage...so you might start blowing them out after a while.

But not something to worry about. You could always get cheap replacements if you wanted. And it's not guaranteed...just something I've seen happen before.

Indeed. I'm about to upgrade to the double din Eclipse with sat., DVD and Nav and iPod capable. Great headunits if you've got the cash or the hookup.
