Since this board always seems to be helpful, would you guys mind helping me with this car question? I have a toyota 4 runner and the alarm keeps going off. Is there any way i can turn it off or make it less sensitive. It's ringing like every 5 min and I think the ppl in my apt are about to kill.
Based on my past experience with Toyota, since i have a 4runner myself and my mom has a Camry with factory alarms. The last time it started doing that for my mom we took it in after we turned off the alarm with the kill switch. They told us that when the battery starts getting low the alarm will continously start going off. I really believe that is what is going on. If you want to go ahead and turn it off you can with the kill switch which is usually under the dash area of the car on the drivers side.
Sometimes its just a simple switch that is silver and has two positions or it might be a small red button you have to hold while turning your car to the on position. But you have to sort of get on your back and check under the dash area where the wires are, that is usually where they put the little switch. I don't have my car to check exactly where it is but that's where they normally place them.
Its possible your battery is going out too. Sometimes when its drained, the electrical system will cut in and out which will cause your alarm to go off or chirp.
Your battery is going out. I had this problem with my car and I was told it was my battery. As soon as I replaced the battery, the problem went away.
Thanks to all that replied, I'll definitely look into getting a new battery. I've talked to the dealership technician and that's what he said could be the problem also. One last thing, after I turned off the alarm, I it hasn't rung in the past 6 hours so maybe it will be ok. But now if it rings again, i know it's the battery.
It's usually on a horizontal lever. It has a button on the end. Mash the button down and pull upward as hard as you can.
Nah mines different, you have to turn the car to on, then push a red button down, but I did it and it's working for the past 6 hours.
Yeah that means your alarm is completly off right now. So it won't go off until you do the same procedure to turn the alarm back on. At that point im pretty sure it will continue to go off again since your battery is probably low.
