My car is a year 2002 Audi A4, Quarttro 3.0, V6, 97000 miles. Lately I actually noticed a decrease in performance and notice a decrease in fuel economy, so I bring it to a auto shop to check what's wrong, and they told me that the catalytic converter is causing the problem. What is the warranty on the catalytic converter? The auto shop guy told me that it is cover my the california law for the dealer to replace it for free if it has under 100000 miles. However, the dealer told me that the warranty cover only 8 yrs or 80000 miles? Well, I just brought this car, so it has one month warranty on the car by the seller, I might bring it back to them, and have them to replace it, however, they're 3 hours away from me, will there be a problem if I drive 3 hours with this known problem? I really need your help, any suggesting, advice would be greatly appreciate it.
Good question. I would call the Audi of America main office to verify what kind of coverage you have on the catalytic converter. I have an '03 A4 so hopefully I won't run into the same problem.
Baqui99, why do you quote the first post when you're the first reply...? I think he already knows you're answering him. I'm no CF.net police... just asking... I've seen many many people do this... it's worthless... Yan_Yao, how did you record the decrease in fuel economy? I've tried to do that with my Corolla just to prove people how much gas I use, but I can't stay disciplined enough to keep recording mileage and cost...
I read somewhere that if you have a clogged cat, you will notice decrease performance, and decrease in fuel economy, and hear noise. and this is exactly the problem I have with my car, so I would pretty much assume that my cat is clogged, and a new one needs to be replace. How much are cat, and where do I get them at? And how to find out what's causing the cat to fail FOR SURE?
There are these people called MECHANICS, who work at places called SHOPs. These people at these places are trained to tell you what you want to know about your car.
