It's been a few years since I bought a new car. Last time around we got a truck but my wife is a new driver and a car is much easier for her to handle, so........off to trade in the Tacoma ( :( )and see what we'll get instead.

OK, so here's my dumb question. Can you generally find a better deal with the dealerships in the suburbs than those inside Houston? Granted, it's all part of the greater metropolitan area, but do some of these places give you a better deal than others based on location (or are they all pretty much caveat emptor)?

Doubtful. It's very easy to email the internet sales department of 10+ car dealerships and compare prices these days.

That's too bad, Tacomas are bad ass, it's what I drive and will always buy. Good luck

It comes down to a couple things. How much is your time worth? Is saving a couple hundred bucks worth it if you are going to own the vehicle for a few years?

Consider buying a few months used if money is an issue. There are a few sites that can nickle and dime you a few dollars in savings if that is what is important to you.

Knowing exactly what you want helps.
