I think the breakdown goes like this Lexus has better horsepower, interior luxury, a few thousand cheaper BMW is more agility, balance, snob appeal Does anyone have experience with either car? Any comments regarding reliability and maintenance would be appreciated too. Thanks guys.
I've had a lot of Lexus vehicles and I think they're the best luxury cars for the money. My sister n law has a beamer and I don't find it all that comfortable to drive.
Lexus is a smoother car, imo. Also much more reliable. Cheaper on the repairs, if there is one, due to the fact there are more Asian import repair shops around. I'm a repeat Lexus customer.
People might think I'm crazy when I say this, but I have to say it. Why not look at the new 2007 Audi A6? You might change your mind after you test drive it, you never know until you give it a try, you can't win without give it a try first. Just days ago, I read a MSN article on the compairson between three luxury car, and Audi A6 got the highest user rating. If you want a fun car, I would say look at the new AUDI RS4, new to the U.S. market......WOW........WOW......WOW......
Beemers are built for the roads and highways - fun to drive. Lexus are built for garages and display centers - just good to watch. If you go to dealer for beemers, salesman would insist to do a test drive, cuz that's their selling point. Whereas if you go to a lexus dealer, they'll start to highlight the interiors to show the bling-blings and blang-blangs.
If you have a BMW and know a certified mechanic that has their own shop then BMW repairs cost just as much as lexus. Bringing it back to the dealership here in Houston is just not smart. They mark up parts almost 300% it's ridiculous. One brake rotor here at Momentum they wanted to charge me 145 dollars when I could buy it from pacific bmw for 48 bucks. That's just ridiculous. Plus they charge an arm and a leg for labor which stacked on top of their ridiculous parts prices makes the repair astronomical. someone did mention the A6 and yeah I would definitely take a look at that as well. Only thing is with the range of vehicles your'e looking at you'll end up with an Audi A6 3.2 and w/o the quattro the car is already 4K lbs. heavy heavy heavy. I believe the 5-series is the lightest out of the bunch but also has the weakest engine too. I thinkyou're talking about the new gen 5-series so you're looking at 215hp which is the same engine as the new 330i. I believe a new intake and some new computer software and you'll get the same 255hp that the 330i is pushing out but you void your warranty but the upgrade isn't anything that isn't already done on a stock 3.0L motor from BMW Audi is nice but I think the 4Klbs is deterring for me unless you're thinking about the AWD models from lexus and bmw then the weight issue is about even since that will add additional weight to the bmw and lexus which are about 500lbs lighter already. ps. If you own a bmw and are out of warranty and hate the eye gouging repair costs then I would recommend going to Auto Tech Pro on pagewood which is between westpark and richmond on hillcroft. He used to work for momentum and the mercedes dealership near greenway. he opened his shop and he's more than reasonable on prices. Ask for Nathan and tell him Mike referred you.
I got the latest consumer reports for cars and it says that for new cars the gs300 is 80 percent more reliable than the average of its class while the 5 series is 10 percent below average. On the used car front, the current and previous generation five series are way below average with their electrical systems while everything else is average to above average. Lexus is above average to well above average in every category. If I were buying a used car, I would definitely buy the lexus. I have many friends who have bmws and love them but they all seem to start falling apart around 70K and they are expensive to fix. My friend payed $1200 to fix his xeon headlamp.
Ya'll freakers are rich... discussing Lexus vs. BMW... jk, I can't afford sh*t[/ What's the plural of LEXUS? Lexuses? Lexi?
Don't consider an Audi since they are essentially VW's and suffer from some serious reliability problems.
I'd choose Lexus over BMW. Have you looked at the Infiniti M - that thing got great reviews when it came out.
Hmm...if you're willing to spend that amount of money, you could look into an Acura RL as well. Repair parts tend to be more abundant for Acuras since they're usually interchangeable with those of Hondas.
I drive a 2003 Lexus GS300 and I absolutely love it. In comparison to a BMW 525, I think the only knock on the Lexus would be its average acceleration (I have never driven a 525 and I am just going off of what I have heard). You can't beat Lexus when it comes to reliability and service. Even when you go in for warranty work, the Lexus dealership folks treat you like royalty.
Middle East? Climate Change? Housing bubble? Any of that ring a bell? Get a Prius and sit on the rest of the money.
I drive a 06 525i And i don't regret purchasing it. Teamusa was right that its the best driving for highways and roads. Awesome handling. Of course if you buy new, then you get that great warranty service where everything is under warranty except for tires (i purchased the extended plan for tires for $600 and have replace 2 tires already which cost $299 a piece. Only because i work in home building industry so i have more odds of getting a nail in my tire!) Whenever you go in for a repair or maintenance they hook you up in a bmw loaner as long as you make an appointment(im sure lexus does the same too) I also included the navigation, sport package, and premium package to the car. Its a pretty awesome driving experience and would def recommend to anybody. ps. dont get the blue color, that mine!
How long do you plan on keeping this vehicle? If its longer than 5 years, get the Lexus for reliability reasons. If its shorter than 5, the BMW (unless you purchase the extended warranty) because they'll start to fall apart after the warranty expires. Make sure you read the fine print on the extended warranty to make sure it's an actual extension of the original warranty. What do you think is more important? A sporty or comfortable vehicle? The Lexus will be more comfortable while the BMW will be more enjoyable, yet harsh. I'm assuming by your post you haven't test driven either one? What are you waiting for? Go test drive them and you'll have your answer after that. Their both great vehicles and you can't go wrong with either one.
Lexus is the way to go for reliablity and a smoother ride...Plus, the services centers are nicer and stacked with hot chicks...
If you buying new, you need to consider the BMW includes the 4 year maintenance, which Lexus does not, so that alone will have some value. As many people have said, BMW handles/drives much better, Lexus is very smooth. All depends on your preference. Personally I found BMWs are built more solid, open and close the doors you will notice the difference.
