Let me first of preface by saying I dont know jack about any sort of audio, especially car audio. At some point or another, the two back speakers in my 2000 Eddie Bauer Explorer were blown out, because they no longer work. I was sitting in my car one day and I just didnt feel that the sound was the same. I faded the sound all the way to the back and there was absolutely no sound at all- just the sub. I tried the fade right in the middle and stuck my ear right next to both of the speakers and I heard nothing. This is kinda strange since I never turn my speakers up to the max or even that close for more than 4 or 5 seconds... Despite all this, I just need to know where to go, what to buy and how much its going to cost. Also, should I just spend money now and replace the whole system for something nicer? I have the money right now so its a possibility.
Dude just replace the two blown speakers (prolly 6x9's) get some nice four ways and you're set. On the other hand if you want a bumpin system I do have a complete setup I might be willing to part with.
I echo SSG's advice. Dependant on what kind of stereo is in your Explorer (JBL makes good stuff and is just another brand from Harmon-Kardon), you could really have a cooking truck.
Might want to check all your fuses, sounds kinda fishy that both would just go out at the same time, especially since you never go max volume or anything. If the speakers are out just head up to Car Toys or any other place with free installation and get you some decent 4-way replacements, cost you 150-200 bucks max.
Alpine CDA-7873 head unit Four Pioneer 6x9s 2 3way, 2 4way Two twelve inch sony XPLOD subs with box Sony XPLOD Amp for the subs XPLOD amp for the mids and highs all the wiring If anyone is interested I can get specific model numbers for everything but all I got now is the head unit.
MY friend just got some from CCity, and boy do they hit hard. But they are crap without a good amp. so dont get a crap amp. I personally like Sony's for the looks, but Audiobahn, or Type R's are the best way to go.
nice set up. I am thinking of tearing out the stock stereo and speakers from my truck and put together a system. Trying to decide what kind of subs/amps to buy.
They do hit hard and you'd be surprised just how much more intense ALL music sounds when you listen to it this way. I'm a huge Tool fan and their music is so much better when you can hear and feel the bass, almost religous. It was a nice setup but now it's just sitting around the house and I am pleased with the factory system in my Mazdaspeed although it's nowhere near as powerfull. I suppose all that bass is really for the kids anyway
I need to pick up some tweeters man, I've got 2 12" Baja's in the back with a 400 watt 4 channel Jensen amp and i can barely hear the lyrics with all that bass going on.
www.crutchfield.com offers at least sizings for most vehicles, so that's a start for some of you guys. I'm just looking to replace the 8" sub in my new car with another 8" + amp to drive it. The sound in the car is awesome, but not when playing music that needs to thump. I'm also looking to put a 12" JL Audio in the trunk as an alternative to the 8". Dunno.
I don't remember, are u in the Houston area? If so, shoot me an email, we might be able to work something out.
Oh, so y'all must be the assholes who drive by my apartment at 3AM on a weeknight blasting that moron music.
SSG, I won't be looking to do it for at least another 3 months. Right now I've got a clear bra and maybe a body kit for the car as highest on the list. I'll contact you if that changes. BTW, I'm actually in the Dallas area.
Hey hey, I happen to like cranking "Pachelbel's Canon" - just because you don't like it, don't go knocking the music! Actually I hate cars that quake in the night. I do like hard hitting bass that I can feel in and hear in my car. I'd rather not draw attention, though, which is why I'm just looking to upgrade the existing 8" or maybe add 1 10 or 12-inch.
to put it simpley its how many speakers within the speaker. example... 2 way 3 way 4 way to answer you first question, its most likley not a blown speaker. what you should do it take the speaker out and look at it. if it is blown you WILL know. if its not you should do like Svpernaut said and check fuses. but if you have the money i would upgrade. I checked your car and you will need 6 x 8. 6 x 8 if you need any other kind of help just ask, but I will also recommend this site (to anyone from begginer to some what experenced) for help installing it link
