Does anyone own one of these cars? My girlfriend is looking at getting one because they are economical and have good gas mileage. I don't know much about them other than their safety ratings are reportedly overrated.

    Any comments or advice?

KIA has more consumer complaints per 100 vehicles than any other car manufacturer.

In this case, be prepared to get what you pay for, which is not much.

I think Hyundai owns them now. They both have 10/5 year warranties.

Kia's arent bad but they arent good either.

If your going to go Korean, go with Hyundai - Been around for quite a while now. I think they have the best warranty on a car right now, and they are reasonably priced too.

What model is she looking at?

My uncle has a Kia Sportage and bought it new in December 2002. He hasn't had any problems with it since then. It rides very smooth has really good suspension and is very comfortable to ride in. He has it all tricked out with the neon lights and extra wide wheels with chrome rims. Very nice little SUV's for the price. He paid $15,000 for it.

The cars are bigtime POS's. Our sports staffer has one and she complains about it endlessly. Get a used Toyota, Honda, Nissan or Suburu. Besides, do you really want a car that stands for Killed In Action?:D
