I didn't post the whole story, but the couple is retired, and said they had all the money they needed.

I passed this on to some family members... because my cousin is battling brain cancer now. :) Thank you for posting this. Great story. I know I'd let my cousin decide what to do with my lottery-won money if I ever did win some.

LOL @ Fatty. Good one, sir.

Wouldn't they need that $11.2 million to help pay for cancer treatment?

Oh wait, Canada has that SOCIALIST Universal Healthcare thing.

But yeah, my buddy in Canada linked this to me yesterday. Great story. I'd probably do something similar if I had no kids as I cannot fathom needing that much money. Hope she gets better -- she definitely deserves it!

That's too bad because they would have had a much lower mortality rate in the USA.

it did say they took care of family first!

    but what a great story!

(couple of things about Canadian lotto's -- Lump sum, and tax free. So the $11mm they won came to them in one check, with no corresponding tax obligation!).

So if say, an American wins the Canadian lotto, does that apply? Or do you have to be a Canadian to win at all?

Anyways, good on them. I hope they have a happy life for the rest of their years together (cancer or no cancer). This reminds of the the ending of "The Notebook", kinda sad.

an American citizen is subject to US tax. Even if they are Canadian residents...but if you donate it all...I suppose you'd get deductions for that. Too complex for me...and paying tax on a lotto winning has never really dissuaded me from wanting to win!
