That's it, the next flight I take I'm going to say that all the beautiful women are making me nervous because they are wearing clothes.

When anybody is sanctioned for being different that is pretty much the definition of mob rule and it is a recipe for inciting hatred.

Maybe we can just revert to the middle ages and start burning strange people with odd practices at the stake on the grounds that they are practicing witchcraft.

That's pretty ridiculous. With security these days, THERE IS NO WAY ANYBODY CAN GET ANYTHING DANGEROUS ONTO A PLANE*. People need to stop freaking out about every little thing.

    * Snakes, of course, are the only exception.

Ok why can't people pray quietly and for themselves when they are in a public setting, instead of forcing others to notice their praying? I dunno, but if I had some guy sitting next to me who was lurching back and forth and doing weird stuff on the plane, it would possibly make me a bit nervous as well.

Paranoia is the order of the day.

It really doesn't speak well for the public either, apparently there are more cowards amongst us than I initially thought...

as much as i believe this was a pathetic decision, i'm glad that they are not only picking on muslims…the rules should apply across the board.

It's only 'insensitive' when it happens to your group.

    We are so divided.

Are you serious? How do you walk out your front door? You are one scared individual. Have you ever seen a Jewish man praying before?

    /dons his Mark Twain hat/

:D I'm sorry if this comes off as me being an ******* - I just thought Jackie's comment was too ludicrous to not make a bit of fun.

Like smoking, religion and religious activities should be banned in public places. Think of the children.

While I agree that this was an unfortunate incident, I don’t have a big problem with what the airline did. There aren’t that many Hasidic Jews in most cities in Canada and that kind of behaviour would have been very strange and concerning to a lot of people. If he could have explained what he was doing I’m sure that that would have been the end of it, but he didn’t speak either official language so no one could communicate with him. In that situation they took the cautious approach and took him off the plane until they could find someone who could communicate with him. That seems like a fairly reasonable trade off to me. There have been recent incidents where planes have turned around because of suspicious behaviour by passengers and I think this is just another example of the new, cautious, world of flying we have now. It was probably nothing, and they probably new that, but without any way to communicate with this guy and with him freaking people out before they even left the ground, this doesn’t seem like that bad a call to me.

Someone more familiar with Hasidic Judaism can perhaps explain why he was praying like that. I don’t think even Muslims pray like that in a public place when they do their daily prayers. There are lots of things you shouldn’t do in a plane, after all. You shouldn’t even joke about hijacking the plane or you may well get hauled off the plane and even charged for doing that. You also really shouldn’t do things to freak out your fellow passengers, especially if you have no way of explaining what you’re doing to them. He may well have not intended to do that but a confined space like a plane is not a normal public place like where someone could just walk away if they felt uncomfortable, and with the terrorism threat the way it is I think the crew was just being cautious.

It's easy to condemn, hard if we were actually in the same situation. Who on the plane got up and said, "It is unacceptable to remove this man based on his actions". Obviously no one.

It's easy for us to sit here and judge, but how would we have behaved if we were on that plane? Maybe someone of us would have done the right thing, maybe some of us wouldn't. Who knows.
