Well, today I am truly proud to be called an American. As I was watching the news earlier I noticed a story about how the governement was banning all hemp products. We're talking rope, health food, clothes, everything. Doesn't this country have better things to do than worrying about all the stoners out there getting high off of health food cookies? The government's position on hemp is absolutley absurd. Not only do they ban the growing of industrial hemp (which if they didn't, could arguably be one of the top three cash crops for the country) but they make all products containing THC - which is basically all cannabis products - illegal. I'm glad the government is looking after my best interests. They can take products off of the market that may contain a fraction of a percent of THC, which you already have to go to specialty stores to get, but it's alright to spray vegetables with sometimes toxic insecticides. Hemp and hemp products are not dangerous enough to society to justify making them illegal. If they could point to one instance in which using these hemp products endangered society, I would love to see it. Oh, and I would like to know how many of these cookies, and nuts, and other foods with hemp, it takes for me to get high. Believe me, if these products did what the government is claiming they can do, the entire American society would have been chowing down on them for the last 25 years. With all of these measures now in affect in the gool 'old U.S.of A. I have to take a step back and try and figure out why such a harsh stance against cannabis? Personally, I can't take anymore of this. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can get in touch with a representative or someone who can do something about this, please let me know. However, the plight of cannabis is much like the plight of student government, no matter how much you want to change things, the bigwigs at the top always have control. I am so riled up after writing this, I've got to go smoke a bowl. . . . -Turbo
I couldn't care less about hemp in any possible way, so it doesn't make much difference to me. Doesn't really effect my life. I just wanted the chance to say: Coooooooooookieeeeeeeeee!!
Turbo: Bravo -- excellent post! The anti-hemp stance is absolutely absurd. About a year ago, I saw a television program in which they asked a UK hemp grower about the intoxicating effects of his crop. With typical British understatement he replied, "You would have to smoke a joint the size of a telephone pole to get a buzz from hemp." Of all the things the government could be regulating, hemp seems to be just about the most asinine.
Hmmm, can you get high from cookies? I know of two ways. 1) de-seed and de-stem. chop into a fine dust (some use a spice grinder or a mortar and pestal). add to cookie mix. bake. Mmmmm... 2) de-seed and de-stem. melt half a stick of butter in a pan on low heat. place in butter and simmer over low heat until buter starts to brown. strain butter (you can use cheesecloth or a colander). add to cookie mix. bake. Mmmmm.... So, yes you CAN DO IT! Can you get high from hemp seeds or hemp oil or something like that? No.
The reason hemp doesn't affect your life, Rokkit, is that the government won't even give it the chance to affect your life. I can almost guarantee that if this nation began to harvest hemp for product production, then our economy would be in much different shape than it is today. Now good or bad I don't know, but it just pisses me off that the government can take such a close-minded stance on this issue. I guess they don't want to support terrorists by growing hemp. Oh and btw, I did send some of my thoughts to my esteemed representatives in congress - I received a preprinted message about how it is for the good of the country and other mindless nonsense. -Turbo ------------------ Legalize it!
I remember seeing one of those old newsreels from WWII,that talked about how great hemp products were for the war effort. They used it for everthing from rope and clothing to exsplosives.
