Nobody except Shaq can stop Shaq. Hopefully, Yao fills out his body one day to 330 pounds and earn the nickname of Yao "Nuclear", as opposed to Shaq "Diesel".
Not a very interesting question. The better question is, will Yao Ming be a better player than about 90% of the centers currently in the NBA? IMO, trying to stop Shaq is silly. Nobody's really going to succeed at it. But not being able to stop shaq isn't important - it's whether or not you can beat LA. If Shaq gets 40 and 20 (he's not going to do much better than that), and Ming manages 20 and 10... well, we've gone a long way to making up for the Shaq-factor. If Sacramento had a 20 and 10 center instead of Vlade... they'd be champions. Incidentally, Shaq's aging. He's more fragile. His dominance is predicated upon size and athleticism. By the time the Rockets have come into their own, he won't be nearly so scary.
Great point haven, shaq's game (or lack thereof) is based solely apon his physical strength and size. As age progresses, strength and durability go first, then shooting touch. Since shaq has no shooting touch of which to fall back on, he's going to be up a creek without a paddle..
Let's get this straight NO Basketball player on this Earth can stop Shaq! Shaq is an oldtime Center, Yao is a New Age Center ( a cross between Center and Small Forward) he can play from all over the court. It is wrong to try and change Yao Ming's game to stop Shaq. Yao will also be very difficult to guard because of his abilites, he can only hope to counter balance Shaq. In 3 seasons when he is fully adapted into the NBA and the Rox are playing great Team Basketball you will then see the new blood taking over from the old!
All I care about is getting back into the playoffs. I don't think that is too much to ask. Everyone, along with Yao, will have to turn it up a notch. I can't stand the "he can't stop Shaq" arguement. I think it's lame. os

don't discount vlade's importance... not everything of merit can be labeled as either a "20" or a "10"... i think vlade was perfect for that team, a 20 / 10 center wouldn'tve done the things necessary / contributed to ball movement / played mind games with shaq / &c, the list goes on and on... vlade's the man
