I am trying to get an unbiased homer-free look at if we match his salary amount. Do people really feel he is worth that amount? If so, why? Personally, I feel he is worth 10m a year. He isnt exactly a lock down defender, and he is a streaky shooter to be sure. His skill set is replicated by many many players in this league for less money. I just want to see why some people here are fervent believers in him, especially now when we have Ariza (again.)
His real value is probably $12m. He's not worth 16, but is it worth losing him over $4m? No. Not to mention, he is good trade bait, teams will bite on him.
He is worth 12-14 a year. Cuban sweetened the deal by adding on 1-3 mil. If you think about it, 1-3 mil on a guy who might turn into a superstar isn't a huge gamble. His salary isn't what scares me. What scares me is his player option and trade kicker.
I peg him around $12M as a player (and that's the upper end). If he produces in that ball park, it's pretty much what should be expected. He's worth more to a team trying to pry him as a Restricted Free Agent, or to a smaller market team looking to build, or to a team that's already over the cap looking for one of the "last pieces" towards contention. If Parsons plays at around last year's level or better, then I think we did fine. If he declines, then it's going to hurt as he'll be pricey to move. IF we match, it's because we gain no cap flexibility for letting him walk and want to keep his production and as a potential future trade piece.
Not worth 15 mil but a lot of teams are overspending on role players. He's still an above average starter at his position with a lot of room to develop. He will be the centerpiece of trade talks for a fantastic player down the line. The contract goes a long way in making salary match. Really would be stupid not too match and lose his productivity and what he can fetch at the deadline or beyond for NOTHING and too make Dallas a better team and Cuban too rake the coils.
how about this question - is he worth 50 million for 6 years (because the guy made less than 1M for 3 years already
He's not worth that much. Our fan base just wants to rub it in Cubans face. Not a smart business move at all. He's worth 8 mill any other year except this one
If the Hawks or Bucks had paid him to that contract, I wouldn't want to match. But since it's the Mavs...
He's probably worth around 10million at his current level but there's definitely room to grow. His defense is terrible. It's Harden level, but he put a lot more effort into it as a rookie and was adequate then. If he can get back to that, add another couple million. His play making ability is underrated, I'd disagree and say for his height there aren't a whole lot of people out there replicating what he does. He's not getting paid $20 million a year, I think it's reasonable to assume he improves enough to earn the contract or just be slightly over paid. At this point matching should be a no brainer.
Definitely, but just because we got him on a bargain deal before doesn't mean we overpay him after the fact. In my mind, Morey's real gamble is if he matches Parsons he really believes Parsons can become the third option on this team. At that point we have three players that are practically un-tradable, and essentially it means DM is doubling down on the statements he has made in the past (that CP is a budding star).
Sure he'll be slightly overpaid, but if you are trying to win a championship, you can't lose a piece like that especially since you have no one to replace him with.
He is the 2nd best ball handler on our team behind Harden. We really need a minimum of 3 quality playmakers for a good rotation.....look at how good the Spurs were when they had Parker, Ginobli, and Diaw on the court together. Who do you propose to replace him with, along with adding a 3rd?
All star is a BS fan voted term. Toronto is building that team around Kyle Lowry and he technically isn't an all star. They are banking on him becoming a superstar as well.
He's a bargain at 15k a year. He's a 3 year starter who has been good ever since his rookie year. He's brought game every year with no big learning curve. He's still 25 with three good years of experience. Ariza put up good numbers only in his contract year, and even then he had trouble staying healthy. At 29 and given his health history we'll be lucky to get 60 games out of him. All Ariza gives you is better 3 point shooting, but most of that was done against weak defenses in the Eastern Conference. He won't play that well in the West.
