an we still waive Moochie, Ward, and Baker to retain 3 rosters spots? We can still trade their contracts at the trade deadline since we are still paying for it rite? Bring in Finley, JayWill, and Baxter and lets call it training camp.

Yes. They stay on the cap, but we can very definitely waive/buy them out. Personally, I expect it to happen, especially with Ward.

If you're asking if we can waive them and then later still trade the contracts, no.

The only reason Weatherspoon was cut was because of the one-time luxury tax savings. These guys, sans Ward, will have some value as the trading deadline approaches. If I had to pick one, it'd be Ward that would be cut. The other two I think will be moved in trades to teams trying to clear some cap room next year.

We can, but I doubt we will.

Either Moochie or Ward will definitely stay, since JVG likes to have 3 PGs on his roster, remember? Plus, I'd like to have Ward around to tutor Head, show him how to be a professional, etc.

Baker's also got an expiring contract, so we might as well keep him around.

I think that we might add a guy like Finley or DA or Spree, but if we do, that will be it for the offseason.

Anyway, it's not like any of those guys are lockerroom problems.

Ward has value only as trade fodder. His 1.87M contract might come in handy to make a trade work. ;)

JVG will never trade or waive ward. unless his contract helps make a trade that would make us much better then ward will retire a rocket.

moochie and baker are our 2 largest expiring contracts outside of wesley. they are worth enough in trade to keep on the team.

I too, think we will add spree or DA (i doubt finley comes here) for the LLE. that would mean wesley will be gone before the summer ends. hopefully he is packaged with baker or moochie in a 2-for-1. that would free up space to sign baxter.

    my hope:

    yao-deke
    stro-Jho-baxter
    tmac-trade-bowen
    LLE-JB-head
    sura-james-ward-moochie

then if we could just trade james and moochie at the deadline for a PG we would be set for a championship run.

I think we will dump Ward or Moochie to open a roster spot (Baxter) and save the remaining 2 for a trade late in the season.

Sure you can waive 'em. You'll even clear up a roster spot. But you still gotta pay 'em. I just don't see that happening. Only way we clear up roster space is through trading. And it's hard to find someone willing to take 2 for 1. Hopefully CD & co. can pull it off though.

I can see Moochie or Baker getting waived by the end of training camp. We have Wesley (4.95M), Moochie (4.2M), Baker (3.88M), Ward (1.87M) and James (3.41M) all as trading pieces with expiring or contracts that can/will come off the books next year. That is 18.3M. We can really only take back 8M in NON-Expiring contracts before the Rockets go over next years Luxury Cap (and that is without using the next summers MLE).
