Please lock if already posted. There are many rumours that Piston's newly acquired Fabricio Oberto will be waived. I know he is not a natural C, but should we jump on him to take on the backup C role?
Great pick up as the team's back up center. His also familiar with Scola's game so having both players play at the same time would be awesome.
He's like an inch taller than Scola. Should be a serviceable backup for Yao. Would love him alongside Scola if he could be had for cheap.
I'd do it just so he doesn't go back to the spurs. I don't want their fans to feel like they got a steal. even though they did.
Okay, here's another question. Spurs may wish to sign him back. If this is the case, how much do we pay for him? I could see Oberto takign less to be back with the Spurs. It's something I didn't realise when I posted this thread, but I've noticed it now.
How can the Spurs sign him if they are trying to go below the salary cap? According to ESPN, they are 4.5 million over the cap. This will be the chance for the Rockets to attain him cheap.
The more important question is, do we WANT to have Oberto. After seeing him play (or didn't play) during this past season, I don't see why we should get him. He's aging and not very agile. Injury prone. Not that dominant physically. Not an offensive threat either outside or in the low post. Not a great rebounder. His only upside is that he's a decent passer.
Haven't yall learned yet? When the spurs get rid of older guys, they're probably done. What does oberto do to help beat La? He was abused the year before in the playoffs vs La and if he comes to the rockets, he will get the same.
He used to be a useful backup type of center. He has gone down appreciably. I don't want him on the Rockets.
A new environment might revive his career. The grit and angst of Scola might even rub into him that He might be productive with the Rockets.
