Beverly will most likely get a 4 year, $30M while Smith 4 year, $50M.

So the question is there any way we can keep them next year?

We can shed the salaries of Terry ($5M), Papa ($5M), Dorsey ($2M).

Can't we pay them and go over the cap since we have their bird rights?

    Sign Smith first, then Bev.

    The Rockets have arrived.

He's only 29, with the new TV deal and higher salary cap... <shrug>.

If he averages 18ppg, 8rpg for us this year, I think he'll get it.

Well no one is going to pay Smith, so we could probably keep him for the MLE. Beverley is a wildcard. If we don't trade for another star, we are in a bit of trouble as far as adding major talent to this team. We might be in a situation at the deadline where we just have to take what we can get.

He's not going to get much money. Lots of people dislike him. He's had a disappointing career if judged by the impact he's had on his teams. His offense has not developed in ten years. He's 29 and a 4 year contract means he's getting paid big when he's 33.

Really? With teams knowing he's getting his full pay from the Pistons?

Smith is going to get MLE money. Someone will offer him slightly more to take all MLE-using teams out of the market. That's when smith will have to decide between staying with us or making slightly more money elsewhere.

This is of course assuming he reverses a disappointing trend that has plagued him for most of his career. He he keeps taking silly shots, rebounds poorly and can't hit a free throw to save his life, then no one is even going to offer him the MLE.

His defense can obviously be tremendous. Let's hope he doesn't negate that with any more 21 points on 21 shots performances. I'm really rooting for the guy to change, but I understand the odds are stacked against us and so I'm not really thinking about how we'll keep him as much as: can this go well?

Beverley should be kept at any (reasonable) cost. Smoove? Let's see how he does. Only one game in so far.

I am most worried about the Lakers going after Beverley. I don't think they want J-Smoov alongside Kobe.

Isn't Bev a restricted free agent after this season?

PGs are in abundance, but a PF that can shoot everywhere and play defense is a gem. I'll be surprised if Beverly gets taken care before JSmoove.

    JSmoove:
if he has a good run in Houston: $30Mil. for 3yr., 3rd yr. team option.
if he fails again in Houston: MLE, maybe

    Bev: $24~$26 for 4yr.

We don't have Smith's bird right. The most we can offer is MLE.

If we get our 3rd star by the deadline, yes.

Lets say we trade for Dragic at the deadline, while keeping Beverley, and of course Smith.

FA comes, we sign Smith to a 3 year full MLE contract. We then use bird rights to re-sign both Dragic and Beverley to whatever contracts they wish.

This scenario would also work with about anyone. Lets use Ty Lawson for example who isn't expiring this off season, works the same way. Trade for Lawson, sign Smith to lengthy full MLE, re-sign Bev with bird rights.

If we do not make a trade for a 3rd star, Bev, Papaniko, Terry, Brewer, Smith and everybody else who's expiring will surely be gone because we will need to retain our cap flexibility, I don't think Morey would change his game plan this deep into it the play, he wants that 3rd star.

And I don't see anybody offering Josh Smith a big contract, Josh Smith is going to be like Lance Stephenson, Jr.Smith and Nate Robinson, all very talented players who never get market value because of their head case label and inconsistent play.
