1st/2nd round Picks - Aprox. Team Sallaries 2007-08 (not including picks)

    (12, 21, 30, 38) Philly - $63,380,000 (including Webber so I don't know if it is accurate)
    (3,11) Atlanta - $48,000,000
    (23) Knicks - $88,000,000 (including Francis)
    (1, 37, 52, 53)Portland - $57,000,000 (not including Oden)
    (17, 46) Nets - $ 65,000,000
    (7, 41) T-wolves - $70,000,000
    (24, 29, 59) Suns - $76,000,000
    (2, 31,35) Sonics - $ 60,000,000 (not including Durant)
(8, 22) Bobcats - $ 28,000,000 (rummor is they want to add players by trading draft picks)
    (9, 49, 51) Bulls - $46,000,000
    (27,57) Pistons - $57,000,000 (not including Webber)
    (18,36,46) Golden State - $61,000,000

    (26) Rockets - $62,600,000

Here are some of the teams that may be willing to move some of their picks. Who do you think will be willing to trade? Any out of this group? My thinking would be the Suns, maybe Philly, Portland, and the Bobcat's #22. Since this draft is deep we could look into sending Head, Howard, Sura's contract to the cap stressed teams, maybe Battier to Charlotte. What do you think?

While I'd love to add draft picks in this draft I wouldn't trade battier to the Bobcats for the #8 pick - there's no way we'd get someone at 8 who would help us as much as Battier. Plus I think he's pretty much untouchable, he a great "Morey" type player.

I'd of course give up Sura's contract for a pick, maybe Howard - but I'd be reluctant to give up Head despite his poor playoff performance. Ultimatley though, since this is such a deep draft - I think the best we'd be able to pick up would be something in the second round.

I think that most of these cap-strapped teams would only be willing to give up draft picks if another team would be willing to take some of their salary obligations.

Lower level draft picks are not very expensive and would have a huge impact on the books in terms of cap space. So a team would need to trade with another team who isn,t as burdened to take on some salary and in return that team would get one or two picks. Is it worth giving up your picks, to gain a little cap room? To some yes.

    Does this scenario exist ?

I've said for a while to try to get either Seattle's 31 or 35.

Philly might give up some draft picks for cash to save roster spaces and avoid luxury tax especially if they go after a free agent. They only have 3 roster places open.

They have quite a few young players on the team, no one really holding them back except for Webber's contract, and that can't be moved.

i would try to get pistons or golden states picks, why? pistons have to resign billups, webber, mcdyse, flip. they won't want more salary cap, i'm pretty sure we can trade bobby for some of those picks. and golden states have to sign barnes and pietrus. their already paying a bunch to j-rich and baron. anyway, the more picks we have, imo, is better. i don't know if we would trade battier, only if we get a pf, sg, or a pg in return with the pick.

wouldn't they want more young players? their in full rebuilding mode, and with a draft like this year, i think they would try to look to trade for higher picks.

I am sure we could trade future considerations for a Suns pick.

the suns are the easiest target.

they need to lose one or both of thier picks.

Phi's and Phx's late 1st rounders seem like the only possible targets. And, we'd be giving up our 1st rounder in some future year.

are we only looking @ teams with multiple picks?

utah has only one first rounder that i bet they'd trade it for a future first.

I just started looking at the teams that have more than one pick, or they have a full roster, or rumors of moving a pick.

I would also like to target teams with multiple 2nd rounders, like the Lakers.

Our team needs depth, cheap depth - especially if Bonzi is re-signed.

    2nd Rounders to consider:

PG Bobby Brown - Tony Parker-ish in size and game
PF Avis Wyatt - Tim Thomas w/a mean streak

Why? They wouldn't just trade their first round pick in one of the deepest drafts in a while for some future pick unless there's a good reason to do it.

It should be noted that no one after the first round gets a guaranteed contract, so only the first rounders automatically count against the cap.

Jeff I knew the 2nd round pick is not a guaranteed contract- but after they are signed does this count against the cap? I do not know- just asking...
