capologists help me out a little... The first possible time for the Rockets to do some swapping is draft day, right? However, guys aren't cleared off the books until later in the summer, so is it possible to trade some of our guys who are under contract for guys whose contracts are up the very next month? Take Boston for example--they have Bryant Stith who makes about 5 mil a year...would it be possible to trade Walt for him just to clear up cap space? Then we just renounce Stith and his salary a month later? I know there would be no reason for Boston to do that, but that's just an example. For a team like Washington, though, who's saving up cap room for next year, a deal like this would be feasible if they were able to ship out a free agent along with one of their young guys who's locked up for the next 3 years so as to have even more room the following year. I know that's confusing, but the bottom line of the question is: is it possible for teams to trade players on draft day whose contracts will be up on july or august 1st? ------------------ P.S. This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.
I believe that player's contracts expire after the last game of the year. If that is correct, then players like Stith would already be free agents and unable to be traded. ------------------
