The Nets have two picks in first round of this draft at 10 and 21. They have 4 guys on the roster with 3 years of experience or less 2 of 4 being bigs (Boone and Williams) who get significant PT for a team with a lot of big men (Swift, Diop, Krstic and Magloire). Also with Devin Harris being the new face at PG, Marcus Williams is expendable. NJ looks like the likeliest trading partner. Do you guys like what they have? Who could we ship out?
Hard to say, but I think we might have shot at either on them, I don't think Harris is necessarily their future pg by default....and Williams is still developing young player. I think it is something we could look at.
if nets is looking to rebuild...do we have a chance of getting jefferson? how much does he make each yr?
whats up with the caps? if you look at clutch's new article... he talks about nj being a trading partner. we don't have anything for jefferson and carter. Our bigs are not our main problem. marcus william is not expandable, they drafted him so he can become a good back up, and just because devin harris being the new face doesn't mean anything. jason kidd was their face, and marcus william was never in the trading market. he is a pretty good back up with lots of potential. a team wants a good starter and backup pgs. but, we could do a small trade, nothing big. something like our 25 pick and 2nd round pick for their 21 pick. something to that extent. or... luther head and a 2nd for their 10th pick. of course, that's unlikely.
Morey is already working on it. http://www.clutchfans.net/news/1468/trade-up_options_could_exist_for_rockets/
There's no way we're getting Jefferson if Denver is offering up Melo. You gotta trump out Denver. What I see is the possibility of trumping Denver by offering our expirings for Vince Carter. I really thing NJ may prefer to get rid of VC because of his age and injury history. We could give them expirings plus #25 plus a first rounder in 2010 to make the deal work. Other than that, I hope some team is willing to "sell" their first round pick for cash and future picks. It looks like Brandon Rush is moving up to #15 according to DraftExpress. Brandon Rush has been the player that I wanted to target at 25 for a long time. So, if we could buy somebody's pick at 14 or 13 to get him, I'd do that. If we still had #25, I'd try to trade it to get somebody's early 2nd and draft Lester Hudson. I'd like to see us be able to pull either Rush or CDR in the first round and Lester Hudson in the early 2nd out of this draft if we do not pull a trade for a Mike Miller/Vince Carter type 3rd wing man without moving Shane.
I think if we make the right deal with New Jersey, we could pretty much be done with our off season... - Luther Head, Chuck Hayes, #25, and #54 for Josh Boone, Maurice Ager, and #21. - Use #21 to draft a 6'7"-ish swing man (at least one of Buddinger, Douglas-Roberts, Batum, or Rush should still be there) - Sign Diop for portion of the MLE (Assuming we can get Landry to take the LLE, or less than 3 mil of the MLE) Not sure if they'd give up Boone since he's had some great games during stretches, and they're losing Magloire to free agency. If we could manage to pull off the above scenario, I think we'd be set for the first half of the season. Alston | Brooks | Jackson McGrady | Ager | Francis Battier | DRAFT PICK | Novak Scola | Landry | Boone Yao | Diop | Mutombo I think it bolsters some of our weak points without jeopardizing chemistry, and leaves us with ammo for the trading deadline (Jackson, Francis, Novak) in case of a serious injury to a starter, or to get that one player that might put us over the top. P.S. Lauren Woods can work concessions for all I care.
Is it vaguely possible that we get Diop for out trade exception with a sign and trade? I'm not sure how big our TE is, but if it's around 3M, I can see us doing that. We'll send them cash or a future second rounder for their services. If the TE isn't enough and roster space is at a premium, we could also deal them Steve + our 2nd rounder + half of Steve's buyout? Diop would be great and if we could get him without using our MLE, that would be great. Then again, I'm confident that if we wanted to, we could probably get Landry and Diop signed using our MLE. Right? It would be useful to get rid of some players in the process though. I don't know about Jefferson. Maybe if they get desperate to dump contracts and we gave them all our expiring deals? Difficult, but stranger things have happened in the NBA.
The TE is $2,358,433. Only a very slight raise for Diop, so I'm not sure it would work. I think the least he'll get is something like 20 over 4, with about 3 mil in the first year.
just because their roster is in flux doesn't mean they're the likeliest trading partner. we don't have enough to get their best players (harris, RJ, vince, kristic) and other than that, we don't need any of the other crap.
We can get decent backup C but can we really get Vince Carter? He could play SG and TMac could play SF? I don't know how much he is he worth ?
I want Devin Harris, I really hope we can strike a deal with Nets to pick him up, maybe a 2nd round pick + Jackson and Francis for him
