Can we buyout cato's contract ?

    Just wondering if could buyout his contract like The Knicks did with Lj .
    With something like 9 Million we could bring almost anybody ...

    It's not practical from a business standpoint. The buyout amount would be is amortized against the cap for the remaing years of the current contract.

    The Rocks will pay Cato about $36m over the next 6 years. If (and it's a big IF) he would settle for half, that $18m would hit the Rockets salary cap at about $3m per year for six years. So, whomever your considering to replace him will already cost $3m before the actual contract negotiations ever begin.

    Like it or not, we are basically stuck with him unless we can trade him.

    Maybe we could convince Bin Laden that Cato is really a muslim-extremist and just sell him.
