Looks like they are on pace to win win 68, but that would be amazing. It's a shame San Antonio couldn't have the same marketability as the Bulls.
I don't think they would care enough like MJ did. Once they clinch home court, they'll rest up, whether they only have 10 or 11 losses or not.
Pop won't go out of his way to win 70 games. This isn't MJ with his competitive "I must destroy everyone in my path" edge. Like heypartner said, once they get home court, they will rest everyone. This isn't a young team out to prove their dominance. They are a veteran team who just want to get to the playoffs and make up for last season's exit. If they get to 70, kudos but a lot of factors are involved. It all depends how the second part of the season starts out, what trades are made, if any injuries happen, etc...
...like others have said - Pops will rest the starters through the back half of the season. There is no chance they risk fatigue or injury heading into the playoffs just to chase a record they are unlikely to catch. Once they get home court, everyone is going to take it easy. Fact is the Spurs have a decent chance this year at getting to the Finals with the way they have been playing.
yeah I mean, despite that they are best team in the league right now...I simply can't imagine them winning it all. I really can't, I see no possibility of it. They're just too old. In the playoffs, everyone is playing at 200% and their bodies will eventually wear down as they get deeper and deeper into the brackets.
It's not like the Spurs are in their late 30s. They are around the same age as recent champs Lakers and Celtics, when they won their rings. Lakers won it also with mostly guys around 30 yrs old, Gasol 29/Kobe 30/Fisher 35/Artest 30, with the exception of Bynum. Celtics won it with Garnett, Pierce, and Allen in their 30s with the exception of Rondo.
They'll wind up north of 65, which is a hell of an achievement, but 70 (let alone 71) is going to be damn rough to get. 41-8 right now, so they'd have to go 29-4 to get to 70. I don't think they can finish at that torrid a pace. Do they even want to get to that number? I will say their next 12 look favorable. Their annual road trip almost exclusively features dog teams. @Bulls, Thieves, and a home and home with the Grizz are the only challenging games there. If they can go 11-1 or even 12-0, then 70 starts to become a lot more realistic at 51-9. Pop will likely ease up a bit once they claim home court, but he's not going to give his guys complete nights off. This is an engine that you want to keep running smoothly. The Playoffs are littered with good teams that coasted late in the season and crashed and burned once the intensity got turned up in the Playoffs.
Not really. Celtics were 32, 31 and 30 when they won. Duncan and Ginobody are two years older. Two years can make a big difference in your 30s. Look what happened to the Celtics after they won. They started looking old. Let's just say that Duncan is past his prime, ok? Can we agree on that. Kobe, Gasol, Odom, Pierce and Allen were not...and Garnett was recharged at 31 for escaping Minn. Spurs might win, but it won't be because Duncan still rules the post.
how quickly this thread got derailed to a "can they win it all" thread. First off, no way they win 71 games... But they can take it all, they are so much deeper than the Lakers, doesnt matter how old duncan and ginobli are, they have depth that is allowing them not play as much as usual. they also have streaky shooters in neil, jefferson and hill that can beat you on any given night. blair is another x factor, he got in early foul trouble last night lucky for the lakers cuz he is spurs hustle player than can fire them up and get to loose balls. I think sa comes out of the west right now, their only competition is the top 3 teams in the east...boston, miami, and chicago. Lakers lack depth, bynum will never live up to his hype. blake and fisher suck, no pg
no it doesn't. guess my point really was that I don't think they will win, because they need Duncan to rule the post to get a title.
Lakers lack depth, bynum will never live up to his hype. blake and fisher suck, no pg I wonder if they'd be interested in AB or KL, and what they'd give for a PG, or if they're going to roll with Fisher and Blake...
I had to check the math on that pace but looks correct. in fact, 68.634 could even be argued that they are on pace to win 69 games. BUT......... I say no because their current 41 wins are based on a very very front loaded schedule consisting of more home games. they will play about 5 more road games than home games the remainder of the season. They will perhaps win the majority of those, but i would say they wind up with about 65/66 wins. Never do they win 71, much less match the 96 Bulls who went 72-10.
You have to "Believe It" , if you can remember the first title run or "Believe It Again" the second title run slogans. I am denfender of the faith no matter how bleak it looks. I will always support the Rockets!!
