The way the team is playing and the chemistry of the team makes me think it is a possibility. I would put our 1-2 punch of Tmac and Yao against Shaq and Wade, Duncan and Manu, Nash and Amare, or any other dynamic duo in the league. We are playing as good of ball as anyone. No one has an answer for Yao in the middle except Miami and noone can stop both Yao and Tmac in a 7 game series. And come playoff time or defense will make even more of a difference. That's or edge defense is what wins in the playoffs. So it may seem a bit far fetched but I actually think it is a possibility. We would have to play some great basketball to get past San Antonio but I actually think it is a possibility and I never would have thought that in the beginning of the season.
Easy, guys. In the secret compartment of my heart, I do wish a miracle can happen and we win it all this year. So, Yao can win his championship here and move on to become a Laker... jk, down with the Lakers. I think the high expectation will set the team up for failure. A realistic goal is to make it to the second round and compete to get into the WCF. The window of opportunity for the team to get a championship is as wide as Cassell's forhead for the next 5-7 years. Of course, shoot high, but we as fans shouldn't expect this much from the team this year. It's just not fair to the guys.
Well I think we have just about the same chance every team that isn't the Spurs has. Take that as you will.
Im of two minds on this.. on one hand....I remember when we came from the #6 seed, and noone thought we had a chance....and we won it all we have been playing so hard(mostly) and things really seem to be coming together....the homer in me knows that all things are possible, and we do have enough talent imo...so who knows.. but.... on the other hand...realistically....we really need more help to have a shot at it...
It's not an expectation but only a question of possibility. And I don't mean one of these pie in the sky wishful dreaming possibilities. But rather do you think it is a realistic possibility. Of course they aren't the odds on favorites to win it all but do they even have a chance. A realistic chance is the question.
Yes...OMR,I believe can win it all this year. The team,of course, has had a MAJOR overhaul. We have chemistry and momentum. Our upside would appear to be VERY high .These guys are still getting used to each other.TMac is playing hurt, which has limited his game(scary huh?).I'm not even sure if Yao is 100 % physically, but he is improving w/every game.It sounds like we are about to add DA to our squad and jettison Mo.How about all this talk about finally picking up a 4 that will defend and rebound? Like you said, our defense will help us come playoff time. The ability to play the halfcourt game is huge. We cause major matchup problems now. and...I can't believe I'm finally saying this, but I'm on the JVG bandwagon. He is getting the job done. Can he do it in the playoffs?I always admired the job he did with that Knicks team, getting them to the finals against us. Just think what it will be like when all these things come to fruition. We match up pretty good against SA...I don't see us having problems w/anybody else if we are healthy and handle the personnel needs. Houston Rockets - Championship contenders in 2005!
Anything's possible. But I say, no. We are having a nice little run right now but I think in the long run some of our weaker areas will be exposed such as rebounding and defense at the PF spot, weak bench, not having a 3rd scoring option and perhaps just overall age of our role players. Add in a quality MLE role player, a good draft and tweaking the team with a few more trades to tweak our role players and I think we can start talking about contending perhaps as early as next season depending on how well we do in those areas.
I agree with you on this. A balls out performance on offense and defense from our duo and anything is possible. Also we need to really kick butt in the first round and get the confidence level up. T mac has tasted a bit of this but it was accomplished by putting an entire team on his back. This time if he get the team passed the first round without having to do it all it will allow him to save it for the tougher matchups when we possibly go further into the playoffs. Yes I'm a homer. Go rockets.
I am going to have to say no, not this year. Team is playing great but I think if we make it into the 2nd round and play well I will consider this season a sucess
If we continue developing our chemistry like we have over the past 6 weeks, then anything is possible. We match up well against the Spers (as evidenced by our wins against them this year) and as such, I would love to see the Rox move up to the 5th or even *gasp* 4th spot (we are only 3.5 games out of the 4th spot with 30 left to play with one game left against each of the teams ahead of us). Home court in the first round probably puts us over the top in the first round against either the Mavs or Kings after which we would probably play the Spers, who I have already mentioned we match up well against. WC Finals against the Sonics or Suns is a great series, and the Suns probably won't be able to run and gun like they have been in the regular season, giving us more of an advantage since we have a better half court game and MUCH better defense than the Suns. I would expect the Heat to make the Finals from the East (maybe the Pistons again if they get their s*** together) and I like our chances against either of these teams. Likely? No. Possible? Absolutely. JVG's system is designed and built for maximum effectiveness when it counts: in the playoffs.
It's 1992: We will do better than expected, it will feel close next year and we will be NBA Champs 2007....mark it.
let's dreaming. 1st round. Sonic is overrated. they are out of gas in playoff. beat them easily. 2nd round. after a lose to Sun, Mr,deke decide do sth for his team. he elbow Mr.nash very hard ,deleve the guy to hosipital . then on, Sun become pieces of craps.another victim of rox's sucess.move on. 3nd round. TMac have impressed them, they keep triple teamhim all the time even in TMac's off night. All Commentor warn that let tim singe guard yao will risk sending tim on foul trouble. spurs refuse to take any advise and insist their TMac focus defense strategy.Eventually, yao ava 40 pts , tmac ava 18pts, 17 asis in the round. rox KO spurs by 4-1. final: we lose the first game.b4 yaoming and bob are foul out, they both get a T. even they are onbench, keep publish some trash against refs, no doubt, another T. "I cannot believe two of our starter have got 6 fouls and two Ts, I guess we need some resoect rom the refs." JVG comment after the game. fans make noise , even senior G.Bush bash the refs. shaq lose all his calls while Refs suppose to grant him, he become no factor on both ends. Finally, a championship for H-town. it's long time for waiting but not too late , isnot it?
They'll need help (Duncan injury or the like), but it's probably not absurd. I think we're still a bit too vulnerable at the 4, and our outside shooting can disappear on us, but we've definitely put together a team that is going to contend over the next few years. Evan
think who we can get for Mo and ward is good uti to the team. Everyone is helthy. Yao and tmac play like superstar every night. Our role players can hit open shot. We play like we kill Mavs then we will be there no problem. Go Rockets
We have great chemistry but still lack the athleticism and talent of some of the other teams. But if we get by the first round. JVG is one good coach at preparing against another team. If we didn't have injuries and began to catch fire, shooting well. We definately have the type experience, veteran leadership and TMac. TMac could actually elevate his game. Demand the ball. Drive the basket. He has that unique talent to take over a game. This would be huge in the playoffs. In fact right now of all the players who can flat take over a game I would but TMac close to the top of the list. I think in the playoffs TMac might be the X factor. The dude can go off crazy at some point and it would be fun to watch. I don't pick us to win it all this season, but if we battled to the conf. finals I would be 180 on this and I would start believing the Clutch City Karma was rolling full steam.
I just remember how much our last team overachieved against the Lakers last year. We played them HARD. We lost, but we lost with pride. I think JVG will get the same overachieving out of his players this year in the playoffs, and the results will be better. This is because the players we have right now will execute without some of the dumb mistakes we made last year. I don't know if we have the chemistry or the talent to make it all the way. But we'll make noise, that's for sure. I can't wait until playoff tickets go on sale!!!
