These dudes are f**king unconscious behind the arc. Guard play and 3 point shooting win the international games, while big men win the NBA.
Boki was also unconcious behind the arc in international play. it's a bit closer range. if they are truley good like Peja, then they can adjust to the different 3 point line.
Jasikevicius plays for Tel Aviv in the Israeli league, apparently. If he ever wants to be a role player iin the NBA, I would bet on Dallas due to the Don Nelson/LTU basketball connection.
Jasikevicius can be the starting PG for Rockets and be the 3rd star behind Yao/Tmac. He can be the missing piece that pushes the Rockets to the top IMHO. He is a more athletic Kirk Hinrich also with a better outside shot.
just because somebody did well in the olympics, doesnt mean the rockets automatically have to sign them. i remember back during the past seasons, when some scrub lighted up the rockets, the next day in the forum there would be a bunch of threads for trade proposals for the guy that just lit up the rockets. My favorite by far was Michael Redd. i believe that there is a name, or an acronym for it. i don't remember what it was called.
You mean Sarunas Jasikevicius. Yeah the guy is a pretty good PG. Man he could really run the team with exceptional great passing and shooting skill. He's 28 years old so it seems like he's pretty much comfortable playing in Europe and getting paid millions with endorsement. I don't know if he want to give it all up if he got familie. Remember if Lithuania win GOLD the players are going to be taken care of by the Government all their lives financially. Would he want to play for the NBA is the question and we know he could play. Language is no barrier for him since he speaks very fluent english. http://www.euroleague.net/plantillas/jugador.jsp?id=ADG
Are you kidding me? You based this off of watching that one game? The guy is a deadeye shooter, no question, but come on. We didn't see much dribble penetration ability (hinrich has some), and we haven't seen him play man to man defense yet, I'm going to guess that he's not that great as he's not particularlyy quick (hinrich is decent) Oh, and he tossed out 4 assists on 4 turnovers. The guy put on an awesome outside shooting performance and is clearly has NBA talent if he is that good of a shooter -- but there's no way you could make that judgment ("more athletic kirk hinrich") after watching this one game.
What you can say about the Lit PG in the context of this game: 1) He's a leader. 2) He's plays with poise in big moments. 3) He's got immaculate shooting form and quick release. 4) He makes quick decisions of the Pick and Roll.
To be fair, I can't imagine Kirk Hinrich is abetter defensively. I mean, Hinrich definitely does his best and works extremely hard, but he's not a good defensive player. I'm not saying Sarunas IS as good as Hinrich - but I'm saying that, most probably, Sarunas is as good, if not better, defensively.
Sarunas Jasikevicius probably is still better than any of our PGs. He has size, good passing skills and can score from beyond the arc. That's probably all we need and that's what we won't get from any of our PGs.
I agree that one game, or the Olympics for that matter, is no reason to get too excited about a player, but why would you use Michael Redd as an example. It's been clear to anyone paying attention for the last 3 years that he is one of the better shooters in the league. He's hardly a scrub.
Jasikievicius is far from being as athletic as Hinrich. Kirk is a heck of a athlet, even if he's white. He has great lateral quickness and he's a great defender, probably the best rookie (with Josh Howard, I'd say). Jasikievicius is a bad man-to-man defender, for any standard, and he's good but not great as far as penetrating and finishing. He's a great passer, on par with the best in the NBA, that's his greatest skill. BTW watch again the game he played 4 years ago, if just his teamates didn't choke from FT line the USA wouldn't have won the gold in Sydney. This is not the first time he's on fire against the US.
I remember when the Rockets were playing the Bucks, and this was maybe the 2001-2002 season. This was before he was an estabslished star, or an All Star at all. He just shoots, like eight three pointers in the game, and the next day on the board, there was trade for Michael Redd threads. Same situation as these Lith players. Edit: I am looking at his career highlights at NBA.com, and most three pointers made in a game for his career high is nine against the Houston Rockets in feb 2002.
Guys, Sarunas Jasikevicius is everything that JVG wants as our starting PG: decent ball handling skills, unconscious from behind the arc. None from Ward, Sura, Lue has that kind of shooting touch. I seem to remember that two months ago everything wanted to sign a 33 year old Brent Barry. As such, why cannot we work hard to sign Sarunas Jasikevicius who is actually a better fit at PG and also as great a shooter, and 5 years younger? I am getting tired of seeing brick layers playing in the NBA. They should find a real job that fits their skills: lay bricks for my house.
