First of all i would love to see the Rockets in the playoffs but would it make sense?....If you were CD at the All-Star break and you know this team can not break out of the first round would you even bother?.... If you dont make the playoffs you at least have the chance of getting a very good player in the lottery... San Antonio did it and they got Tim Duncan, Cleveland tanked games at got LeBron James... Reality is that this team is a good team but not Laker, San Antonio, Sacramento, Dallas good The only way i see this team being a contender is by adding another big time scorer ( Rasheed Wallace)...Every team in the West has gotten better and the Rockets are trying to sign Piatkowski man come on this guy is quality but is not going to get you over the hump..... Where u at Scuba Steve?!
yeah man that's a really stupid idea. we may need another scorer in the long run, but we also need experience. and right now we need that a lot more imo.
Well, in order 4 the ROXS 2 passed the 1st Rd, they first need 2 get into the play offs ! They blew it this year, hopefully they can make this comin' season !!
So if we get in the playoffs and get sweept by the Lakers in the 1st round what have u gained....On the other hand you dont make the playoffs you get in the lottery u pick up a good player and you can get you a good free agent with Rice's contract coming off....
You gain experience. You gain confidence for making it to the playoffs. When's the last time a team went from no playoffs to championship contender?
Playoff experience is what you gain... Tank...intentionally? Fuggidaboutit..This wouldnt be the team I have supported for 30 years if they did that..
New Jersey did it the went from last to first granted its the East but still they did it.....They tanked they got Martin, Jefferson and traded for Kidd
I still don't get it. We should just tank games until we're ready to WIN the championship? I mean, if we're just going to make it to the Finals and lose in 7 games why even bother, right?
Wassup with you edc? First you blast Francis on another thread and now you all over the team. How about being a little more pessimistic. "Fans" like you just suck. Why don't you stop wasting our time with trash responses and go bother some other BBS ... Heard Cleveland has "King James" to talk about. Back on topic ... as most people already posted... experience is the key to championships. Look at the Clippers ... you think getting the top 5 picks for the past 5 years is going to bring you a championship? Yeah .. lets build ourselve a franchise like the Clippers. Anyhow, we got Yao & Francis ... no need to tank anything, we are on the right track to going back to the promise land.
Come on now i said All-Star Break!!!!!!!!!!!!Im not saying to go out and tank every night cuz this team is good but if youre going to be the 8th seed in the playoffs and get swept might as well be the 9th seed and be in the lottery and have a chance to get a very good player with all the talent coming out
Oh, OK. So if we don't have the number 1 seed locked up by the All Star break, THEN we should start tanking. I still don't get it. I'm going to bed...
when your the 12th pick or 13th pick in the lottery; to be honest you dont really have a chance to be a winner. For real though you cant be honest when you say this team should just give up if there going into the allstar break with the 8th or 7th seed. At this point we have the players we need to become a great team. In two or three years when we are a awesome team. And some of our bad contracts are running out, I have a feeling that there will be some quality players willing to play here for a reasonable salary.
It's about the Rockets ablity to play as a team. If they don't do that. We'll lose quick. Individual stats is just gravy now.
Tanking is a horrible idea...Rockets will make the playoffs in the 7th or 8th spot, gain valuable playoff experience, increase the trade value of our players, and make it more attractive for free agents to come to Houston.... Not a huge revelation, but the West should shake out like this: 1) Lakers, 2) Sacramento (with healthy CW), 3) Spurs, 4) Dallas 5) Timberwolves 6) Phoenix 7) Houston 8) Portland ...I suspect Seattle and GS may make a lil run...
I hate to break it to you, but a #1 draft pick isn't gonna get these Rockets into a championship. You can add all the names and all the "potential" you want, but until they have some battle scars, they ain't goin' nowhere. Playoff experience in itself is invaluable. So if we gain a couple of draft spots by missing the playoffs, it's simply not worth it. But even before that becomes an issue, from the start, a coach teaches his players how to WIN games, not how to lose games. If we wanted to teach these guys how to lose games, shoot they could have hired me as the coach. You step out there every night with the best bunch of guys have have, prepared as best as you can prepare them, and they give it their all on the court. Period. You don't build a championship team by teaching them it's alright to lose here and there. You make sure they go out there and play to win every night. As a fan, if I didn't think they were playing to win, I wouldn't watch. THEN where would the team be?
Anything can happen in the playoffs. The #8 seed this year in the Suns gave the Spurs a good run. A few breaks than and there and the Suns would have upset the Spurs. Thats why you want to get in the bracket anything is possible. And if the rockets are a 9th seed they will almost likely get the 13th pick in the draft, dosent really get me excited. I'd rather watch the Rockets knowing that they are trying to win and the thing is not "fixed"
It's going to be interesting how Sam Cassell does in Minnesota. I wonder if Wally will show in the play-offs? He stunk last time.
