No. But then again ..... .... you can sign a player for any position, it is not restricted. Then if you sign a player that will be redundant, you can trade a player presently on your roster. So, in essence you cannot take your exception and trade it away ... but you can use it to your utmost benefit ..... .... therefore in some cases it may amount to the same thing .....
There is no exception on the books that can be traded. Trade exceptions are not tradeable. It is a common result of a trade that uses a trade exception to reciprocate a trade exception. You earn a trade exception when you go down in salary while being above the cap. The very use of a trade exception means two teams are making a trade with unmatching salaries (outside the 15% rule for matching salaries). The one going up in salary must use their trade exception. The one going down in salary often then earns a trade exception. But there are instances where they don't earn a trade exception (already under the cap) or not one identical in value (trades involving Base-Yr Compensation players). The media has stated in the past that a trade exception is tradeable, but they are mistaken when they say that.
