Bosh made an interesting comment , you have to register to see article but here is a part . ...................................................... quote "Bosh did leave one intriguing remark at the end of the SNY interview when asked to put a percentage on coming to New York: "We'll see after draft night," Bosh said with a laugh. Hmmm....Draft night? ......... The issue for the Knicks is that if the Raptors start taking offers for Bosh on draft night, the Knicks best asset, David Lee, can't be moved until July 1. Lee is a pending unrestricted free agent, but his rights can't be traded on draft night because he was a one-year contract. Here's where Donnie Walsh would have to get creative in working with Bryan Colangelo, who will certainly want to get the most he can out of the Bosh asset. The hope at 2 Penn Plaza is to send a message on draft night with a blockbuster move to grab the attention of the top free agents. It could be similar to when the Celtics acquired Ray Allen on draft night in 2007, as it set the table for the Kevin Garnett deal a few weeks later. The fear, of course, is that there is another team (keep an eye on the Houston Rockets) planning to submarine the Knicks' summer plans by pulling off a trade for a key free agent such as Bosh on draft night to remove him from the pool. That would be devastating to the Knicks, who would then have to battle the Bulls and Heat for Amar'e Stoudemire. And don't sleep on the Heat, either. Wade has been working free agents for weeks and the Heat do have an asset -- though alarmingly unstable -- in Michael Beasley whom they could deal on draft night. The Knicks could try to offer a player such as Chandler and then fill in the blanks with the rights to a pending free agent such as Al Harrington just to make the money work. This might be amenable to Toronto if they're looking for mostly cap flexibility in return while getting back a young asset. Obviously if they're looking to get talent back for Bosh, the Raps can do better elsewhere with straight-up trade offers." http://www.newsday.com/sports/baske...us-closing-remark-about-draft-night-1.2033683 Heres what I know, YES a team can trade for Bosh rights. His bird rights would carry over to the Rockets. However there is a cap hold, so his salary takes up the cap. We would have to trade a package that matches his current salary (jeffries, battier, picks, hill) . He would NOT be able to sign a 6 year extension. He would only be able to renegotiate a new 3 year contract max deal. (with player option after 3 years). The Rockets would do this knowing ahead of time that Bosh would re-sign here. But isnt that tampering?
No Bosh is opting out of his contract so its impossible. What Bosh meant is probably that if New York can make some sort of splash in the draft then it might increase his chances of coming over there. The same goes for other possible suitors.
Is it impossible? I'm not sure that I can think of one example, but speaking on technicalities.. Toronto has his contract on their books until July 1st, and then they have the cap hold. Why can't the Rockets trade for his contract/rights a few days before he opts out? There very well may be a rule prohibiting this, but I'm unaware of it. And it would certainly be risky as hell, knowing full well we weren't even on his list of five teams he preferred. I can't really see it happening.. but could it happen? That seems to be a different story. I'm sure someone will come in and cite the NBA rule that prohibits this, but it is interesting.
man now I really think he is going to be a Rocket soon. Now Bosh is saying on nba video he "wants to be the centerpiece of a team". That has Houston written all over it. Lets look at the facts. We know within the last 2 weeks he has secretly arrived in Houston to train with Hakeem. We know that Morey is a genius with communicating and who knows, maybe was in Houston at the same time.Today there is a supposed toronto resident saying Bosh's posse packed up his stuff and moved out of Toronto. Who is the only team on draft night that has assets that can be traded ? Rockets. (maybe Bynum) I think in 4 days Bosh is a Rocket . Dont be surprised if the Rockets draft a player thats a sg(Paul George) only to be later traded to Raptors. Yesturday I thought Bosh was going to Cleveland but Bosh has also said this week "I dont want to wait around while others decide".....that also has Houston written all over it.
i dont understand that view...did Yao ming cease to exist all of a sudden?? What about Martin, brooks, scola? Those guys technically aren't superstars, but my point is Bosh can't be the centerpiece of a team when there's so many signficant pieces around him. This is a exaggeration of talent comparison, but it's like saying any one player is the centerpiece of Team USA. It can't really happen on a consistent basis because there's too much talent there. Bosh wants to be the Hakeem, the Dwight howard, the lebron james, that's what it sounds like. i dont think he can be that kind of centerpiece here, mainly because he won't even be able to put up great numbers offensively if we still have Yao, martin, and brooks, evne less if we manage to keep scola. You think he's going to be a centerpiece if he's averaging 15 and 10? No way. He wants to go where he'll basically have unlimited touches. That can work with Wade in Miami or a Lebron/Joe Johnson in NY, but not in Houston where we already have 4 guys that can avg 20/game in the starting lineup...and the fifth guy can average 15-17.
The scenario that you describe isn't legal. Here's the verbage from the NBA CBA that prevents it: Article VII Section 8 Trade Rules (c)A Team cannot trade any player after the NBA trade deadline occurring in the last Season of the player’s Contract, or after the NBA trade deadline occurring in any Season that could be the last Season of the player’s Contract based upon the exercise or non-exercise of an Option or Early Termination Option. Make sense? The 2010 trade deadline has already past and this is/could be the last season of Bosh's contract so he can't be traded. He has to become a FA on July 1st.
Before the Rockets go flaunting the NBA rules and trying to do a secret negotiation with Bosh before free agency, you have to think about what David Stern would do to our team. Remember what he did to the Timberwolves for having a secret deal with Joe Smith. He voided Joe Smith's contract and took 5 years(reduced to 3) of 1st round draft picks away from them.
Yes. But Boozer and Howard have been doing so aswell. They've been training all of the 3 (4 if you count Hakeem) together.
Yeah -- I figured there was a rule against it, I just haven't heard of it before. Thanks for clearing that up.
He becomes an FA on 7/1, but can't sign until 7/8. also, draftees can't be traded for 30 days after signing.
did bosh actually come down to houston? I remember the report about the workouts, but i dont recall anything about the meeting taking place here.
Would you say that Kobe is the centerpiece of the Laker's lineup. He's surrounded by more talent than the Rocket's have but yet everything starts and ends with him. Bosh would be the centerpiece of the Rocket's lineup.
I would say that oppinion is up for serious debate. With a healthy Yao Ming I certainly do not think the Lakers minus Kobe are as good as the Rockets. I think the Rockets as currently constructed plus a healthy Yao could challenge the Lakers. We took them to seven games a year ago with out Yao for all but one game. Add a healthy Yao and Bosh to go along with the current line-up along with a free agent such as Camby and I like our chances against the Lakers a lot.
didnt camby sign an extension with portland? i agree. as we stand pat, with a healthy Yao, we can beat any team including kobe and the lakers. add bosh, barring chemistry issues, and we are easily one of the favorites to win the title.
