Recently, my computer keeps telling me I've run out of space. I go and unload around 23 megs from my temp folder, only to have it happen again in the next few hours.

Was just wondering where I go to clean crap from my computer, so that it doesn't do this anymore.

    Little help?

    less pr0n = more space

HD's are pretty cheap these days, maybe it's time to upgrade or add a second HD!

I have a laptop, and have no idea how to put an HD into this stupid thing.

I was told by some people a while back that you could "clean and bleach" the damn thing. My point is I've looked into my computer and there are ton's of crap on here that I don't need.

Unfortunately, it would take hours to do this manually. I was hoping y'all knew how to strip your computer of unwanted crap.

Clear the temp folder change the setting to only allow it to hold 1 meg of junk and delete all your cookies. You can also delete about 90% of your fonts which will give you a surprising amount of extra space. Go to disk clean-up and figure out want you don't want and delete it. And go the control panel add-remove and delete old programs you don't need. That should give you a few hundred megs. If you have Mp3's delete any that you don't like any more because they are huge files. :)

clear your browser cache. For Internet Explorer go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Delete Files (Delete all offline content).

you've probably downloaded a ton of jpegs to your cache from this BBS alone. this is where it is stored till you remove it.

clear it on a regular basis. If you want to see the files befiore deleting look for the folder called Temporary Internet Files which is different from the Temp folder.

Do a find on all files modified in the last year and you'll probably see a lot of Temporary Internet Files that don't show up in Disk Cleanup. I had this problem for a while, now I do this find once a month and delete all the cookies I can't seem to to see any other way.

BJ... not to sound moronic, but can you guide how I do this?

(And this is THE OFFICIAL POST where BJ can call me a moron.)

The other arguments, however, always hurt... just a little.

You can go to shareware and download isystem wiper for free, it will wipe most of that stuff with a mouse click. If you have saved passwords etc. you'll have to relogin.

    Hmm....run Maintenance Wizard everyday.

    Uninstall programs you don't use.

    And good luck!

One way to 'hack' those pesky programs off your system is to remove them from the registry, reboot, and then manually delete the folders they are in. It's not advisable to jack around with the registry, though.

The best bet is something mentioned earlier...delete all of your temporary internet files. Those things can eat up system space quickly. Also...if you keep a ton of email in your mail reader, that will take up a lot of space also. With Microsoft Exchange, you not only have to delete the mail from your Inbox, but you also have to manually resize your mail file.
