Can duck Paul Williams and still be considered great?

"Boxing's most avoided man" wants them both, and in my opinion is far better than both.

Is boxing so bad that our best young talents can simply be avoided to the point that they can't get any fights?

    Pathetic...

Mayweather is 5'8. Pacquiao is 5'6. Paul Williams is 6'2. Mayweather once said Williams is too big(either big or tall). Frankly, I agree. The guy may be campaigning at welterweight but he probably weighs like a middleweight come fight-night.

he hasnt fought all top level opponents like pacman has but he does have a huge height advantage over all pacman. Here is a very good video summarizing his boxing wins and highlights

His natural weight is at Welter. He has said this many times, and If he consistently weighs in at welter, he is 100% legitimate. It's not anymore a physical advantage than Lennox had on Tyson, or Foreman had on his countless victims... Is Floyd saying "He is too tall for me?". Can you say that and still call yourself the greatest? I think not...

Tyson gave up 6 inches to Lennox Lewis. Larry Holmes and Ali had several fights with height and reach advantages throughout their careers. Paul Williams has said he is most comfortable at this weight class, so who are we to say what he can't do when he makes weight?

You can't not fight a guy because he is tall, and go on to call yourself "The Greatest of all time"...

if Mayweather and Pac can't handle Paul Williams at 147, they should move down in weight. It should not be the other way around...

Because boxing is BS. I like boxing and I watch it more than MMA, but as far as structure, boxing has a lot of work to do to convince fans that it is something other than just a huge scam and full of corruption.

Paul WIlliams is a freak. Too tall for his division. Can't blame either of them for not fighting him.

Maybe he should move up in weight class.

    Ouch...

For a while, I thought it was the quality of the fighters, but I am starting to think otherwise. If a supreme talent like Williams can't get a fight or a title shot, what can we do about it? Can Williams win enough to make it mandatory for these guys to either fight him or relinquish the belt?

    maybe pigs can fly.

He's too tall. He has too much of a reach advantage. Sorry, but it ain't happening and since he's reluctant to gain weight (while Pac jumps up and wins time after time) his career is passing him by.

What does it matter about HEIGHT? If there were height classes, there would be a valid argument there, but if he's got the weight, why are you saying "he's too tall"? What's going to be the next reason: "he's too black" or "he's too bald"? WTH, man? :(

PAC-the-MAN and Paidweather should fight Williams, because he's shown he's got the stuff to stand up *no pun intended* to them.

Excuses, excuses... It is a fight. Outside of weight, measurements have no meaning. Good for Paul Williams, Good for George Foreman, Good for Thomas Hearns who was a welterweight champion at 6-1...

The cream should rise to the top...

Firstly, PWill shouldn't even be fighting at 147. He's also like a foot taller than Manny so it would be a complete mismatch. Floyd would simply be outworked by Paul so its no surprise why these guys don't want a PWill match. Who knows? If either of them fight Paul, it has to be after those two fight each other. Which currently looks bleek right now so maybe a Paul Williams match with either is actually realistic.

    History sets the standard...

    Sugar Ray Leonard
    146 lbs
    5-10
    74

    Thomas Hearns
    145
    6-1
    78

Would these guys turn down a fight at 147 with Paul Williams?

Just because Pac and Mayweather are legal dwarves does not mean they should be able to hold the belts while potentially better fighters get wasted on a lack of testicular fortitude and the crap structure of boxing...

I think Floyd can beat PWill but the problem is Floyd always wants an easy fight.

Paul Williams and Pacman are under Top Rank, so Bob Arum can make that fight happen, but both pacman and money would lose to paul williams.

I have to agree with knote and swoly... the rules are based on weight. If it were based on something else then so be it, but it's not. So using said rules, they should be able to fight each other.
Whether it will happen or not is another issue.
