I hereby ask shanna to pay my electric bill because I didn't think mine would be so high. I'm sure Cheney'll have enough money with Bush's tax cut (not to mention the millions he already has) to take care of that bill.

A closer analogy would be that you shift the electricity bill from the "Household Expenses" part of your personal budget to some other part of your personal budget. The money to pay the bill is still coming from the same source (US Tax Receipts), Cheney just wants to shift the expense from one part of the budget to another.

How can he possibly use $180,000 of energy a year? Somebody needs to switch to low-watt light bulbs.

Except Cheney does not control the Navy, so that's not "his" money to spend. Essentially, he wants another part of government to pay his electricity bill so that he can spend his budget elsewhere.

That would be like the Navy asking the Education department to pay for their new plane so that they Navy could buy something else. [IMG]

Except the Navy does pay for much of the upkeep, etc. of the residence and surrounding area, so it's not quite as far afield as having the education dept. pay for it.

I do think, though, that if the bill is so much (well, regardless of how much the bill is for electricity), it should come solely out of the VP's budget.

Also keep in mind that the $180,000 was derived at by multiplying the first 1/2 of fiscal 2001's bill by 2. The government's fiscal year starts in October. Al Gore was in the residence for at least 3 of those months.

Does anyone know what company it was that Cheney was president of to acquire his fortune?

I happen to know the man who was vice president of the company while Cheney was president.
