Like the Blazers of old our second unit of Moochie, Torres, Williams, Willis and Griffin will give the first unit a run for its money. If matched up it will take a good effort from Steve and Cuttino to beat the second unit. Does anyone know if they actually scrimmage in practices like that? Maybe they could charge reduced admissions to see them scrimmage for diehard fans. Hope it doesn't wear Cuttino and Steve out too much.
The Mavericks do something similar to this every offseason. I have been to a couple of them. They call it an open practice. Last year it was free to the fans up to the limit of the seating capacity of Reunion Arena. It's not really a 1st unit vs. 2nd unit, but the intrasquad scrimmage teams are usually unbalanced. Most of the first unit was on one side and the other had one starter and the scrubs. The scrubs won last time I went.
Let's Look at it: PG: Steve vs. Moochie ---> Advantage Steve SG: Cuttino vs. Torres ---> Advantage Cuttino SF: Rice vs. Morris ---> Advantage Rice PF: KT vs. Griffin ---> Advantage Griffin (slight) C: Cato vs. Willis ---> Advantage Willis (smarter) Coach: Rudy vs. Mr. Mean ---> Advantage Rudy Announcer: Bill vs. Calvin ---> Advantage Bill Mascot: Turbo vs. Clutch ---> Clutch (Air Clutch) Jerseys: White vs. Blue ---> Blue By a score of 5-4, the first team wins!!! There you have it....
Hoop T - If the one starter playing with the Mavs' second unit was either Finley or Nowitski, I can see that the second unit+ would put up a darn good fight. glynch I agree. On a night were Cato was a no show, Griffin used his athletic ability on KT, and Walt got enough shots to be involved, Cat & Steve had better show up or the second unit would NEVER let them live down the final score.
Rockets have alot of different variey of players to put on the floor. This years lineup is so well balanced that if Houston wants to go match up with any team, they can do so.
I'd be very surprised if Eddie Griffin is currently more valuable than Kenny Thomas. By the end of the season, the reverse wouldn't surprise me.
